I really like your build threads, Will.....I don't say much, but I'm trying to be a sponge and learn lots from your threads and other members....All the porting I've done has been just widening ports and working over the transfers.....It's time to start playing with some #'s soon.

Great thread!!

Thanks! I enjoy doing them. Once you get a few under your belt, its nice to step up and get a degree wheel, and go through the #'s, there is a fair amount left on the table when you don't touch the #'s or the uppers.

I'm in the middle of doing your old 119 Dolly.....I might have to slap the wheel on it and start learning.:msp_biggrin:

Looking good Will, are you running the stock BB piston or something different?

The legendary traveling Dolmar????

Will, I can't remember if you mentioned it, but is this BB kit one of the new Meteor kits from Baileys?

No it's a BB kit from MCW.

The Meteor kit I used on the hybrid 044 I built was a strong runner. It didn't run quite as strong as some others with OEM 046 top ends but that was my first try with an aftermarket kit.

I talked to the owner of it this morning. He loves the saw, but is laid up at the moment.......His Dad owns a hunting lodge and many strange and unusual animals, Tracy was helping his Dad with some elk and had a large bull run him down. He just had surgery on his shoulder from that incident, so he won't be running a saw for a few days.

I've got one of those BB kits from Matt that I'm going to clean up and try on the new 'Chinsaw'. It also has the wonky exhaust port roof which needs to be cleaned up. I'll find out when I put a degree wheel on it where things are at with the gasket removed.

Now about those transfers, I don't have the tools to do a proper job on the upper transfers, so I'm going to have to notch the piston crown (yeah, I'll drop a bit of compression, but I'll more than make it up with the gasket removed). Will is apparently using 118 ATDC (124 duration) - is that a good duration for this BB jug to be used as a work saw?

Well, I'm hoping the #'s will work out fine. We shall see!! I think they will be good.

It looks like you also made the ports a bit wider, so your time/area would be a bit higher than with the stock width ports. I know Al was playing around with the transfers on these jugs, so maybe he'll have some numbers.

I'm only going to use this saw for grunt work in the bigger logs, so I'm looking to maximise the torque.

I may just end up measuring the time/area of the ports and see where they're at. After reading Blair's book, I've got an idea about what I should aim for - it's just such a hassle of a job to go through. If someone else had already arrived at some timing numbers it would save me the work.

Look forward to your conclusions.

Yes, they are bigger due to raising them, as well, as widened a little bit, I don't go crazy on widening them, what I've done here I know for a fact work well on a 70cc oem kit. What are you planning on running for ex timing?
