On page 3/35 of http://www.zenoah.net/images/download/XE23.pdf they claim a disadvantage of two-stroke design is "High THC Emission". I thought the DEA was working to overcome that type of problem, not the EPA...

So if I were to fail a piss test could I claim it was because I'd been running my chainsaw? Cool!

Actually, according to that document, their "Strato Charged" engine takes in a shot of straight air into the transfer passageway and scavenges the exhaust with it as a buffer between the spent and new charges, resulting in little fuel making it out the exhaust port. Kind of gives another possibility to Elux's capped transfers...

At this time no one has a 2-stroke that will meet the 2007 (2008 if we get some repreve from EPA) emissions levels. All the manufacturers are working hard to keep the 2-stroke in production as it is the our bread and butter equipment and not to sound cliche' NOTHING RUNS LIKE A TWO STROKE.

Who cares if Honda is losing money on it. It's a better machine than it's 2-stroke counterparts. It's more fuel efficient, it's quieter, it's better for the enviroment, and it's a HONDA, the finest small engine made. It will last longer too.
I guess what I don't get is why a guy that is obviously impressed w/Honda tech. has a hard time w/their 4-stroke small engines.
IMO, I'm glad to see the advance in the tech. I'm tired of sucking 2-stroke exaust. For me, the only 2-stroke I wouldn't part w/is my T-Maxx RC truck. I'd love to see saws go to 4-stroke if they had the B@@ls.
I'll put my Honda trimmer against ANY other in the field!!!!! You think it "stunk" or "stubk" or whatever. I got the feeling you haven't had much time behind the wheel of a string trimmer if that's your commentary.

Not if you define better by power to weight ratio. The honda trimmer weighs almost four lbs more than a fs 85. I am betting the power isnt that great also as Honda doesnt even list it.

I think Hondas motor are world class. I just dont like the idea of four cycle OPE. OPE is a very weight and power sensitive application where two stroke engines are simply better. The next generation of two stroke will equal the 4 stroke in a emmissions, durability and better them in power to weight. BTW when you make the four cycle 2008 compliant it will lose even more power as high performance four strokes dont run so well with no valve overlap.

Ill take my fs 85 or 250 anyday over the Honda trimmer and yes I have ran trimmers and brush cutters quite abit.

F.Y.I.,

The new 25cc trimmer weighs 13lbs. The weight has been dramatically reduced. Try the new one Ben, you might be suprised.
The technology for Chainsaw application isn't there yet but, it's coming.
