This made the day, his Sunday ride. Anyone know what this car is?

That's one rude Stude dude! '50 or '51!

I agree. First time a car steals the show in a saw thread. That's a real beauty.

Well it certainly is more pleasing to the eye to look at that car than his saw skills ... let alone understanding the logic of it. :hmm3grin2orange:

360

Looks good to me, thats the way I saw all the time. That back wedge is my method of staying clear of kick outs..

AKA 45 degree backcut. Thall you mid as well just do a 360 around the tree without sawing a notch in it= same effect. Doing a 45 degree backcut is just like sawing another notch in the tree. The tree goes where it wants to. A flat backcut tells the tree to go to the notch. Wood fiber acts more differently that you might think. When you cut it certian ways, it acts differently. ;)

Good grief another arborist that don't know jack. Ekka ya ever cut a tree with a striaght across the back cut and have it hit another tree on its way to the ground. What does the bottom of the tree do, it kicks out. Course if you knew anything at all you would know that. No wonder Aussie country is still full of mice and rats, the exterminators must be like their arborists, clueless. Put that in ya pipe and puff it, wink!

Not so. The hinge is still there guiding the tree. Just because your cutting downward doesn't mean there is no hinge to guide the tree. After serveral thousand trees over the years with not one single mishap there is no way I'm changing the way I saw em, no way what so ever....

Dont back off now guys, he's reached deep in his arrogance bag of tricks.

i've never cut a back cut on a 45, nor do i remember a tree coming off the back of the stump. i'll have to try to do both a let ya know how they work.
ok i found two pics from this winter, both dirty little beech's 20" dbh hung up, oh look straight across back cut and didn't pop off the stump, had to pull it off with tractor.

Haha, that would be nice indeed to have one of those. So far for 38 years I've either been dayumm lucky or doing something right. That same man had some "professional arborsits" out there before me. Wonder why he didn't callen back, hehehehe. You should see their work, its beautifull. He showed me some of the "pro" work, what a joke. Looked like Ekka had been in there sawing,LOL

Hey Ultra, I don't think it matters with that big of a hoe but I'm going to ask anyway. Do you not find it eaiser to knock the tree over with the stump attached for eaiser stump removal? Two swipes on the felling sides and that big Cat should push it on over with no problem...

whatever

Whatever helps you sleep at night....:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy: :crazy1::laugh:
