I know what they're supposed to sell for. I was just wondering the bottom line is.

Terry... does this mean our net price is being lowered??? My price list says MSRP $409.95 any thing less than that takes away from a dealers ability to support the product line..

SCOTT

It is an average retail

Yes it is an average retail Scott. So what with all your sales of $409.95 plus, you might, in the spirit of maintaining an average, want to sell one real cheap to me...heh heh. Better yet how about a trade for a Japanese Maple or a Ginkgo cultivar.

I do want to clear up the pricing. The Suggested Retail is $409.95 as cuttinscott stated. The price I quoted is just an average retail.

How much will the Makita version go for?

If Makita does decide to offer this saw at a latter date the suggested list price will be the same. Right now they do not sell this family of saws, they are staying with the DCS540

Really?

Do u mean there are people crazy enough to pay MSRP for anything? I would not pay MSRP for a lightbulb. Let alone a saw. Well I guess I would depend on how High the MSRP is jacked up over the dealer cost. I know a friend who just gave a dealer 20 bucks basically to order him a bar for his saw that he could have done himself and not paid tax.

Maybe I am just cheap?

Hey Cap.. MSRP is what manufactures and distributors use as a method to set the playing field. So if I was your dealer you would not want me to make any money so as I could improve my livleyhood, pay my insurances, pay my taxes, pay my utilities etc.. , I guess we all need an inheritance or something to survive because people like yourself feel it is unnecessary to make a living selling products.

no

the days of anyone I know and myself paying MSRP is long gone. but I would never take a chainsaw to sears or homedepot etc. or a computer to bestbuy to have work done and since most everything i buy is from online, I take what ever it is to the local shop, if i am unable to do it myself. I have no problem with them making money off me on service. I just do not see the point in throwing money down the drain when I purchase it. Now there are times when I want something bad enough or need and do not want to wait so I spend 50% more and get it through a small business so I can have it now.

But please tell me the Plus side of spending 160 bucks more on a chainsaw at a local small business and taking it to them to do what ever I can not do. or saving the 160 bucks and still taking it to them to do work on it. The plus side to me that is. I see no reason or plus side to me to always spend more for everything. If they can not keep busy selling service there service is prolly not that great. Heck even worthless gunsmiths in my area are rich. even though cabelas is 45 min away. the small business I work for has no problem making ???? good money.

I am curious if u paid MSRP for what ever vehicle u have purchased new? or did u ask for a deal? and screw ur sales men out of his hard earned money?

well this is just my point of view, If anyone gets  then i am sorry. But I am far from alone on this.

have a good one.

I`m actually shopping for another 50cc saw at the moment. I`m really interested in the 5100 because the specs look great. But I have Husky and Stihl shops close by. Is the quality of the Dolmar product so far superior to these two brands that I can forget about ever needing a support network? I really want to try this saw but for the same money I can get a MS260 or a 346xp and never fret about parts and service. I know what to expect with Husky or Stihl , with Dolmar I feel like I`m taking a leap of faith. For $409.95 I`m buying much more than a saw. What guarantees can Dolmar provide with a small dealer network and a small level of production? Why would I get the most for my money with a Dolmar, not to mention having to invest in more spare bars and chains that will not interchange with my current saws? Make me a believer and I`ll by your saw.

Hi Glenn,

No machine is so good that it will never need service/support but given the aggressive plans by Dolmar to expand, which they have already carried out in many areas, you may soon have a Dolmar dealer local to you.

The 5100 is so new to the market that noone can say how it will hold up over time but quality and reliability has never been an issue with Dolmar. I haven`t been inside a 5100 but I`ve been told by someone that I trust that it is built like a mini 7900, which is very well built. I realize that this sounds like one of those deals where a friend of a friend told me that it`s a good saw but that`s not the case. I have a 5100 and it seems to be everything everyone says it is.

The 5100 will also be comparable to the 346 in price but cheaper than the 260. I`d suggest buying a 5100 and a spare air filter, which may be all the support the saw ever needs, and enjoy your woodcutting.

Dolmar Dealers...in the South?
There has been a Dolmar dealer in Decatur, AL for at least two years. He has been at the same location for decades. It's a small shop located in old Decatur. I would consider it a genuine power equipment sales/service shop. Since Dolmar has made plans to expand, a new Dolmar dealer has opened up. I went by both shops last week and the established dealer may not carry saws any more since they opened another dealer in his market. The new dealer had a lot of bicycles but I only saw 2 chainsaws, a PS-34 and a PS-401. I asked the little lady behind the counter a lot of questions and had her running back and forth between the shop and the front. Every time I made an inquiry she looked like I stepped on her big toe. It looked like it pained her to deal with a potential chainsaw customer. She didn't know much anything about the Dolmar line or any other saw for that matter. I was not permitted to speak to a mechanic...they were inaccessible, in the back. I am disappointed in Dolmar's effort here in my region. I think that the root of this localized problem is with the distributor, SEDCO. I called them up and the man who answered didn't know "Jack". One thing is for sure, around here, you can't hardly spit without hitting a Husky dealer and I know of a local Dolmar dealer where you can sniff bicycle seats all day. :dizzy:
