To some several thousand units later I've yet to pull a Stihl out the box and see it let go, or as some would say blow up. Only sold 4 big 660's last year if I recall correctly and all I hear from those that bought them is "awesome saw".

I think this shop the man is talking about is wanting to be rid of some 650's and I got bad news for that shop, tant gonna happen no time soon. We don't stock the 650 at all because we have no demand for it what so ever. I always felt they, Stihl, should have built a new saw to fill the gap between the 660 and 880. Why the 650 was built has always been alittle puzzling to me...

AMEN on that one Thall! We don't stock the 650 either. We'll order it up if someone really wants it. Granted the ? was directed at you and lake but i'll throw in that we only sold 3 660's last yr and no complaints. Oh and Thall, do you sell may of the bigger saws? outside of the 441, which is goin at about 2 a month we're not doin a lot of bigger saws in stihl

wooohooo

Quit beating around the bush. The dealer's statement is crap.

660 is as tough as Stihl gets. I have most of them in the hands of the Amish around here, who have no idea what maintenance is. They can still get 2 to 3 years out of one, and then I make another good one out of parts for them.

Can you say "SAY ANYTHING?"

Welp we carry saws from the 180 to the 880 though we dont bother with the 390,650,270 or 280 or the little 170, just so little demand for those. The rest we have. Around here where we're at its yuppie town. We sell alot of 180's,230's, 250's 290's and 310's to the home owners, mostly all they need to do what they wanna do. The woodchucks I've converted to the 361 and sold a slew of them. The 260 seems be steady most of the year and especially at Christmas time. As for the big saws maybe 10 to 15 big ones a year, that a 441,460, 660 mix. I did sell a 880 a few weeks ago. Today I sold a 460 over a 441. The man tried them both in a log and said the 441 was too high tech for him, he prefered the old style vib system, said it felt more solid and he's right. He was impressed with the way the 441 cut but said it felt to smooth to be a saw, lolol. He chose the 460 and he and I both smiled at the counter. I don't push any saw, they are all for sale.

Sales overall are slow right now. Jan, Feb and March are our worst three months. Come April we'll start rocking and rolling and I can't wait.

That's odd...I've never heard of one seizing out of the box...I have blown many of em' apart after two or three years of hard use though.....Wait..This is Stihl we're talking about?...It doesn't suprise me.:D

Sorry I couldn't resist

I hope the 441 ( and any future offerings that SAtihl has ) are as tough as Stihls always are.

Yeah...You know....I just had to stir it a few more times:D
Though I will say that my 660's have taken a backseat to my 395's...That's the best saw ever made..Everybody oughta have one.

Any saw is only as good as the maintenance it recieves!!!

I have always believed Stihltech's signature!!!

How well a saw will last ultimately comes done to how the owner/operator maintains it!!!

Yep...I must agree...It's funny that the few saws that I use everyday always seem to outlast the ones my crew are using..

Fine words of wisdom there. I had a 660 come in a month ago that looked like it had been sent to hell and back. It was so nasty looking and dirty I didn't even want to touch it. It was fried. The guy goes them dayumm guys, I'm gonna start firing their azzes. I said ya late,LOLOL

It never fails....It seems like at least once a year, someone does that to me.

I like the bulk of the Husky Pro line of saws...........346,357,359 & 372 I have 'em all. For some reason I could never warm up to the 395.

The 395 never got the praise on here that the above mentioned saws have!!!

Someday they'll wake up and figure it out....For me it's a comfort issue. The bottom line is that it's more comfortable in my hands than any other saw...Plus there is no doubt between me and everyone working for me,the 395 feels stronger than the 660

LOLOL, now you and me got something in common. I live by the ole saying of "when in doult throw it out". I like your attitude. I'm the sameway, screw it, pitch it and buy a new one. Good post Timber, I'm the sameway. Dull chain, sharpen it my azz, toss it and grab a new one. I know some prefer to sharpen, me I prefer to change em, not sharpen them. Some things I tant got time to be piddling with, grab a new one and go. Good post Timber!

I have a 660 on the bench right now (Thall and Ultra know the story on this one) sounds like the one you have Tom.

I call the owner ( this guy is a friend that I occasionally climb for) and tell him what the damage ($$$) is on the saw..........he says he wishes he could keep he saws as nice as I keep mine...........you just need to make the time.

No good runnin' saws.......no cashola!!!
