......but if they come out to save me, I hope they have something big enough to do the job and not expect to use my saws when they get here :greenchainsaw:

Even worse.........as you are laying there trapped.....you now have the added dilema of whether or not to let someone else use your saw.:biggrinbounce2:

I think I'd feel better with a 3120 on the scene!

ok... so now that it has been decided they are of no use to us I am looking to find new alternatives. I was wondering how the Stihl 361, or an MS260 pro will do?

The 361 is a fine saw, for a medium weight saw, the 260 works as a small saw, you don't seem to understand that you need a BIG saw for what you want to do!!!!

What are the capabilties fo the husq. 55 rancher, and the 136. Im just curious to know. My FD bought these a while back and im kinda wondering why. They arent used for firefighting, mostly just tree removal during storms, but they seem to lack power for even that. (especially the 136). Im just curious to all of your thoughts on these. Thanks!!

How big is your F/D is it Volunteer ? Do you have millages to help you funds?
those saws were they discussed at your meetings before your bought them.
Seems the intentions were for storm damage. Not rescue.
Lets talk.

I gotta ask, what do you envision these big saws doing?

As I said in an earlier post, I think a 440 with a 25' bar should be minimum!!! Need to clea a road for emergincy vehicles want o be out there with an 18" homeowner Husky for an hour, or do you want a 372/440 (I don't care what brand, just a saw with some balls!!) and get it cleared and move on the next snag? I used a Husky 350 for years, but if lives are in the balance, I think it might need to get done a bit faster?

Musta missed this one. The smaller saws may have been donated or bought on a whim.

I just noticed that one this morning myself, that is a nice setup!! I ust wonder if you would want to use that bucking up a tree, or save it for when you get to the house the other tree fell on to get inside? I don't know squat about those rescue saws and how long the chains last. Anyone?

Rescue Saw

Heres a picture of our rescue saw.
This is a Tempest Vent Master powered by Efco.
We don't use Stihl Saws for those who want to be rescued by Stihl Hang in there I'll get to you when you change your mind. LOL

Just wondering why all those rescue saws have screnches in em... I take it theres no time to start changing plugs etc to saw when its needed??

Heres a picture of the blade cuts through anything we will ever come up against. turns at 5,100 RPM

When you are doing search and rescue in or on a building and want to adjust the tension its there. No need to run back and get one.

I wasnt in the firehouse when they were bought. I dont even think that they guys that bought them are even here anymore. Yes we are volunteer and money is never an issue when it comes to purchasing new equipment. At least it isnt anymore, we now have a chief who is on a spending spree to update all of our equipment which is why I am looking into getting new saws. Yes these saws are not generally used for rescue, we have plenty of other saws for that. PLENTY I am simply asking what you guys would think would be suitable for cutting up downed trees in the road or on a house. I understand what sawinredneck is saying in that you want to be able to cut a tree fast if you need to get somewhere fast. BUT...... a HUGE saw is not necessary (at least not in my opinion but you guys would know better than me). So what would you suggest?

Money is a issue in our department. We don't even get paid when go on calls.

We have gotten a few Grants from FEMA lately so we updated our gear.
The US conservation throws us small grants for forest fire equipment.

We have our downed trees, and use our own saws because if they were to sit untill we need them they tend not to start.
Don't know where you are so I don't know what saws would help you.

Im in southern new york. I didnt mean to sound like im bragging, its just we have a lot of big business, malls, strip malls, and residential areas. The big businesses and malls get taxed highly, and we have about 6k residents. We aalso dont get paid for going on calls. We dont even really have many downed trees. even during storms. Our town highway dept, and utility service goes around and takes down trees that may interfere w/ power lines during storms. But we cant rely on that because anything can happen. I dont even necessarily want a saw that can handle just that(cutting up downed trees) apparently that was what someone tried to do and we ended up with the problemn we have now. Im not sure if I mentioned or not but I got the go ahead for the purchase of some new saws (Approx. 2-4).

Thanks asb...thanks a lot. I was eating a bowl of cereal for dinner when I read this.

Now if you wouldn't mind coming over and helping me get the Raisin Bran off my walls, I would appreciate it.

I'll get the flakes out of my nose myself, thank you.
