Took down this good size maple today at a home owners request.
Boy the Jonsered sure does suck the gas..hehe. Got lots of wood out of it but the rounds are a little much for me to handle. The large rounds are in Coleman if anyone wants to deal with them...

Sure do like my jonsered. Great for bucking the bigger stuff. Sure was a nice day!!!! Here is a couple pics.......

Looks good!!

I just generally quarter rounds like that so I can carry them.

Sure I will try that cutting in half agian . Sure took a while on the one I did. I fractured the back 3 years ago so I dont like to lift too much. Im good for 80 lbs. Those halfs are alot more than that. Have too quarter them.hehehe

Just rip it into quarters or halves from the side. Easy cut and you can keep the length you want. Plus they are a lot easier to handle at that size.

Nice wood KD,

What I do with rounds like that (and I've had lots of them) is use my mower/ATV ramps (or a plank) and roll em or winch them onto the truck. I mounted hand crank winch on the front of the pickup bed and it works ok albeit a bit slow. At home I throw them off and quarter with the splitter in verticle mode. You let those quarters sit for a year then crack them up the spring before you use them and you've got some unbeatable stuff! Nice pix and thanks for sharing.

PS: I'm with you on the ripping. It takes longer than the winching.

Then you are using the wrong saw or the wrong technique!

If I put the 20" bar on my 394, I can rip 45"+ diameter maple rounds in less than 2 minutes per cut. It creates HUGE piles of noodles though...

And there in lies the problem. Most people don't carry a 394/20 around with them for ripping (unless you are milling). I have a 143MX that can certainly perform the drill but why bother when I can just winch them onboard. It's more fuel efficient too.
