Indeed a great deal! I am not complaining in the least bit, it is in pretty good condition for being 26 years old. Holy crap I am older than the saw. I was a year old when this thing was made.

Definitely cosmetic, but the muffler will need to be replaced. Maybe I can find a decent top cover like you mentioned. This thing is a strong runner, and definitely has seen more abuse from the owner than from the wood.

The piston is spotless, maybe if we get together soon I can bring it down to show you. When it was running, smoke was rolling out of both the holes in the top cover. Nearly choked me to death..

I know what you mean. My 1959 Harley Panhead that I have owned since I was 24 is in excellent shape. I was five when it hit the road!! All my Jreds are from around when I was about your age!! The 630 that I have is quite likely my newest saw!! I think 1993 or so!! If you have any time pm me and let me know love to see your newest. I am in the shop for the next week or so--anytime!:cheers:

Spike mentioned the top covers have a different bolt spacing on the rear, and it is visible on some of the covers on Ebay. The bolt is closer to the center of the saw, instead of the muffler. That pretty much shoots my idea about the covers. The 670 cover will work, but it is taller. You could also put a heavier 670 filter on it with the taller cover.

Yeah I'm pretty much a novice on this new stuff:):):) I'm sure spike knows what he's talking about. I'll have to research this some more as I have Huskys and now this jred that is of the same/more or less family. Not as positive of this stuff as I am of the earlier stuff!!

You can have that muffler of mine if you come down to the GTG in October. You can have it for free of course, but something that contains a lot of hops will put a smile on both of our faces. :givebeer:

I am thinking Thurs might be a good day, but not sure yet. Will send you a PM in the next couple of days. :)

I will certainly pay for the muffler, you have helped me out more than once. :)

I plan on bringing a larger selection of Maine's finest beer this time. Gonna bring some Geary's, some Shipyard, maybe some Casco Bay, basically going to bring a couple coolers full. We will be high on hops. Speaking of which, did you know hops are the closest relative to pot? I love beer.

All the 625,630 and 670 series Jonsered saws that take the late model top cover have the one piece coil set up, coil wire is in front of the flywheel. The older style that take the older top cover have the two piece coil and module with the coil wire comming from the back side of the flywheel. The older style top covers are a little shorter and the front recoil side screw is located farther forward on the cover. Its not that noticeable till you place them side by side. Rick!

Thurs

Yeah let me know Lee

Blue Hill Fair starts Thurs!! I live right on the side of Blue Hill mountain within sight/earshot of the fairgrounds. If you and your lady have any interest in going to the fair it runs from Thurs thru Monday. Good down home type AG fair. Lot of antique tractor pulls and other ancient equipment and animals and such. My place is a good place to park as well as fortify ones self for the crowds.

Ah that makes it clearer. They changed the covers when they went to the single coil. So there are old style covers and new style covers. Now are the air filter covers different as well or did they remain the same and fit either cyl cover?

I beleave the filter covers were the same new and old style. the 670 used a taller cover while the 625 and 630 used a shorter one. the filters are the same so the 670 elbow that the filter attaches to must be a little taller. it also has a support tab on it that attaches to the crankcase by the choke rod. These saws and the 61 266 268 272 husky saws share alot of the same parts with some things that are different. they made these for many years and made few little improvements along the way. the more you mess with them the more of the changes you figure out. Rick!

I am going to use that same excuse to keep it. I originally said I won't own doubles, part saws, but not doubles. I will have to rethink that strategy and what really constitutes the same model. ;)

Since it is a DLX model with heated handles, it is technically a different model, so you should keep it. If not, ah, let me think here for a minute..............hmmmmmmm............

This saw isn't going anywhere. Although if I do happen to get caught with a new saw, I will just say that I traded for it. ;)

She doesn't know the difference between the saws........yet. She does know what saws I don't have because she helps me look for them, that could bite me in the ass one day.

I'll tell her that I sent you another red saw.

Here is the 910 I picked up this week. Pretty good saw. Was running it yesterday down at Cantdog's place and don't think it can be stopped with any Maine wood.

Here is the 490 that I got from bama. The pictures don't do the saw justice, it is pristine and runs like a top. Was able to tune it today to 12,900 rpm no-load.

Well I had a big Jonsered day at Spikes GTG.
I ran Spikes 630 Super II and his moded 2153.
Best of all I got to checkout Leeha's Jonsered Racket XF. What a nice saw!
Oh yeah, a new 2153 came home with me too!

I wish I could have made it down to see the XF (and all the AS members too). Sounds like you are trading orange for red, about time.
