Okay got some more pictures. It is pouring out, so you better appreciate this. :)

I am not sure if the heated handle still works or not, will have to check it tomorrow.

I have no idea what he was doing with the muffler, but it looks like the support bracket is missing. If I replace the muffler, I might as well replace the top as well. You can see the 2 cuts, one on top and the other on the side. Not sure if he was trying to reduce heat or what.

Haha! He called me Thursday night and I was supposed to pick it up yesterday morning but it didn't work out so i went down and got it today.

I wonder if the muffler rusted or broke and he put on the new muffler that is taller and burnt the subsequent holes in the top cover?

Does that look like where it would burn through? It would also explain the repair to the muffler.

Your gas caps are original to the saw. They are the style used on the 80's Jonsereds. Later the changed to the husky style. I have both and prefer the newer style myself. You got your self one heck of a deal on this one. Wont take muck to make it into one fine looking saw. Good luck, Rick!

That's the original top and the original muffler. They are not touching as they would be if it was a new muffler under the old top. The hole looks like it is tight over the seem in the muffler which probably rusted out just like it did in the front. A new top won't bolt on the early crankcase due to the fact that the location of the front bolt hole is about 3/4" farther back on the new ones. (Who the heck knows why. :dizzy:)

Nice find and for a good price. I picked up a Pro Mac 800 at an farm auction last Sat. for $55. A splash of gas and bar oil and away it went. What would be good older 60cc JRed to look for?

I can live with the holes in the top cover, not so sure about the muffler. I was thinking if the owner tried to put a newer muffler on and it burnt the top maybe he tried to fix the old one instead?

I will have to check out the "V" option tomorrow. This saw will be coming down in Oct. Maybe someone will have a 361, I would really like to run the 2 side by side to see how they compare. I really think the 630's are one of the best, if not best, 60cc class saw ever made. When I got my first one from taplinhill, I was really surprised at how it cut. They are absolutely great saws.

I think you only have a few options, a 630, 625, and 66E are the only ones that come to mind. The 630 is an absolutely amazing saw, but I have not run the 625. The 625 is supposed to be a little more mild mannered than the 630.

Would the 630 be about the same performance wise as a 262xp?

That I don't know, i have never run a 262XP. Pure conjecture but I would assume the 630 would be better suited for larger wood, it is a heavier saw with large bar mount. It might have more low end power, but again this is a pure guess.

I should just let Spike answer this one because I really don't know.

The muffler I have is in great shape. It is the tube style though and I think it's a bit more restrictive. I replaced it with a muffler from a 266XP, which has a more "open" sound to it.

No way, the 262xp was rated at a lot more power, and is lighter.

The 630 is a Jred version of the older 162SE/SG (SG in this case).

I am pretty sure that the 630 and 670 were the first Jreds to be made at the Husky factory.

The 630 is rated at 3.2KW (4.3HP), and the 262 is rated at 3.5KW (4.7HP). Like I said, i have no idea.

I just ran mine(newly rebuilt) today. 1st time in the wood since rebuilding. It was very nice in 20" dead oak! I worked on a 630v for someone on the east coast a few years ago. He only used it for trimming his maple trees. The thing looked brand new and the handles worked perfectly. I tried to buy it from him, but no joy.

Congrats on such a good find, Lee. I agree that the 630 is a great saw in its class. I loved my 625II until I ran the 630, although the 625 looks better.

Good to hear you got it up and running! It takes a lot for me to be impressed by a saw, and there is just something about the 630 that I love. It might be the sound or the power band but I am in love with this model. I certainly don't need another 630, but for $50 it is hard to turn down.
