Air filter question

Hey fellas,
I have a 372 xp with the stock type air filter(black one) and i noticed the other day that inside the filter there is a fair amount of dust so i'm thinking about getting the heavy duty air filter...now can i use that style filter with my stock top cover or will i have to get another one?....Also does the heavy duty filter work much better than stock or am i wasting money? thanks guys
