Sorry guys, I have to ask. I found a decent running old 041 FB for sale. I know the guy well, ( he runs the liquor store I buy my beer at ). It has a 25 inch rollo es b/c. He bought this saw new, and I believe this guy takes care of his stuff. What you think is a good price to snag this saw?

I agree with Scandy on the pricerange if its in extremely nice shape and its a saw you would want for a collection of some sort. If your planning on buying it to sell you would be hard pressed to make much on it if you purchased it for $125. Personally the 041, its not one of my favorite stihl saws. For an older 70cc sized stihl saw I like an 038 mag. Whatever you do, don't purchase it if its going to cut into your beer fund.

Bowtie, If you are buy a saw to really use.........I would buy
a newer saw with AV mounts. But if the 041 is just to have
some fun with, and its a clean saw.........Then buy it!
I love to hear mine run, I use it to grub out stumps, it
will pull a 20" BC coming and going in oak. As to what its worth
on the older saws......Its what its worth to you.

Well the guy shot me 175, I bet I could talk him down to 125. Dont know why I want it. Oh, yeah I do, its a chainsaw.

I like this saw a lot bought mine new in 1978 for 385$ have logged and cut wood with it since and now use it with my mini mill for the first cut when milling with my alaskan mill the 125-150 range sounds about right :rockn:

I like this line of thinking. Newer, faster, lighter, smoother, is all OK, but some members seem to be a bit too quick to dismiss older saws as obsolete and not worth messing with. Obviously for many of us, there is a hobby/collecting aspect with saws that goes beyond simply the need to own one as a tool. (And it's not like anyone around here just owns one saw either) I enjoy bringing along an older saw and giving it a workout now and then. Different feel, different sound, but you still end up with a pile of wood, right?.

Of course, anyone in a pro user category probably wouldn't want to be messing around with older saws, although there are some exceptions.

O41 Farmboss value

I bought an 041 Farmboss about five years ago for I think about $125. It had been used very little - still had the original bar 16" on it. It's my primary saw and I cut about 5-6 cords of firewood with it a year. Other than maintenance and cleaning, the only thing I've had to do is install a carburetor kit and replace the fuel pickup/filter. The little screen in the carb had plugged up with what appeared to be fibrous material from the filter medium in the fuel pickup. Gene Gauss
