So I am in a fight with an ebay seller. Back on April 8th I won a for parts or repair 385xp. The shipping was high and the saw was pushing it bid wise but I snipped it. The arrival window ended April 15. On Saturday the 12th I emailed the seller asking if he had shipped. He said he had, the day before.

No tracking number and no saw by April 17th so I opened a case with Ebay. I elected to accept the saw if it arrived.

On April 18th I got an email from the seller asking for my phone number. I sent it and when he called he started blaming his help that quit for not providing tracking numbers, his new iPad ebay app for screwing up his auctions, complaining the poor me's..

Finally I got a chance to tell him that his saw was 3 days late. That he had a guaranteed arrival date of the 15th. Of course he insisted that was incorrect. Ebay had already opened a case and he knew it

I asked him verbally when he shipped. He insisted it was by Friday the 11th. I knew he was lying. Since he had told me that my saw was delivered that morning, and he kindly gave me a tracking number after delivery, I told him it would be a simple matter to check the shipping date. Since I had a box with it on it and a tracking number.
.
He went ballistic and started screaming at me for mouthing off. I told him GFY and hung up.

When I got to my porch the idiot's carton was there, but there were holes in the wall of the carton and the chain brake flag was sticking out. It was shipped April 14th.

I took the carton to UPS and had them open it. This is how it was packed:

The brake flag was cracked, the air filter cover was beat to death and the spikes chewed everything they touched. Not one iota of packing.

He also shipped a 372 to my buddy in WY, packed the same.

So I opened another case and I'm waiting for the liar to try to work it out..... he has till the 24th or something....

I told ebay I wanted all my money back including shipping and the seller should pay return freight.

What a POS.

Just amazing. At the most it takes an extra few minutes to do a nice cushioned well protected packing job. I just raid dumpsters once in awhile and get Styrofoam blocks, extra cardboard corners, bubble wrap, etc for free. Scrap newspapers, free. Empty plastic water bottles, free. Plastic bags recycled grocery store bags. Only thing I pay for is tape.

I get free bubble wrap from work. GM spends toooooooooo much money on bubble wrap. Some automotive parts, you wouldn't believe how much the wrap them up. Stuff that isn't even fragile either. And then they wonder why they went bankrupt.

My shipping place charges $7 to pack a saw, used to be free, they told me they have never lost a ups claim, so I pay the $7, they are professional packers, & what I'm shipping gets there with no worries, they email me the tracking number, Life is good, sorry you hooked up with a dead beat seller.

I pack things to the max when I ship. I've sold lots of valuable stuff and lots of cheep parts and not one problem with damaged items.
I'd be irritated if a saw showed up like that too, but I doubt you'll get far with it. At best, you'll be sending it back on your dime or living with the extra scratches for a very lights refund. You never get ebay to cover return shipping. I went thought the same thing with a Chinese plasma cutter and I lost my shirt.

Care to share the seller's ID so we know who to look out for? Sounds like he sells a few saws at least and i hope to steer clear if I can.
After I get resolution I'll put his name up. He sold 10+ big Huskies all at the same time. He is in Connecticut. I know where his small engine shop is because he told me it was next door to a UPS retail office.... He's not to smart, but nasty.

so you want the saw for free because it's not perfect?
I just want what I bid on. I bought a jug for it from an AS member, a PTO bearing and seal plus a case gasket from Husky and a meteor piston. They arrived before the saw, so I was not planning on a perfect saw or on sending it back.

I hate liars, worse than anything. I'll mess with the buyer as long as possible for lying to me. Even if it costs me I'll mess with him...

I received a Husqvarna 261 I bought 2 days after the 385 three days before the 385 showed up. The 261 was shipped with bar oil in it and it was as greasy as Richard Nixon, I told the seller, he apologized and accepted the blame, and I dropped it. No feedback left at all. We all make mistakes, but lying about a shipping date that is printed on the box?

I am sure that all the saw buyers had damage. Many claims and bad feedbacks..

I have had good luck with ebay saws....the 261 was almost mint, except for a missing coil (unexpected) and an oil slick it was a great buy. One phone call to VT. and the missing clutch cover, complete muffler, 3 shoe clutch and a coil were on the way. I had a jug and a new bar, so Husqvarna 261/262 for $230 with a new Meteor. My favorite saw of all, I have three, I'm a hoarder. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251495203818?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

This 385 seller had perfect feedback, one neutral but he was pissed because he screwed up his auctions by using his new cell phone app, he wound up selling two saws shipped to Europe and he wanted US sales only, didn't mean to have some saws like mine on a tight shipping schedule, yada, yada, yada.

So like any frustrated adolescent he kicked the object of his frustration....

My original post was already TL so I didn't go into all the gruesome details, but if the seller, in his email on Sat the 12th had told me the truth, that he hadn't shipped yet for a guaranteed delivery date on the 15th. I would have told him to cancel the auction. Too many red flags. No tracking number, late shipping, etc...

In our phone conversation the fool tried to tell me that it was impossible to ship a 385 for less than $47 and he lost money on the shipping. UPS repacked the saw for me and weighed and measured it. Cost for shipping= $34 with $200/insurance.

Lie after lie.

When I compare UPS to USPS it seems the post office is a bit cheaper,.. Maybe just around here. I had a saw shipped from a pretty big seller ( the guy that does the videos for all his saws) and the saw came with the rear handle sticking out of the box and broken. I never opened a case. I just called him, he was very nice on the phone and 3-4 days later a perfect replacement handle came in the mail. Now I had to take everything apart on a running saw to replace the handle but I didnt mind, in fact I enjoy working on saws as we all do

This seller however is a different story. I cant stand liars and cheaters. It would be good to get his name out there so we all know, at least I know he's in Conn. Most of the stuff I buy is from Iowa-Oregon- Wash state. Interesting post, sorry about the whole mess. Hope you get some kind of satisfaction when all is said and done!

A long shipping delay is unacceptable in my opinion. All the seller has to do is box the item up beforehand after taking the necessary pictures. Pack it up so all you need is a ship to address. Drop it off within 24 hours after end of auction.

Maybe I'm more fortunate as I have a Post Office, a UPS shipper (Office Depo) and Fed Ex (Office Max) all within five minutes of my home.

Heck, 'The Greek' gets his piston rings to me in five business days (1 week) and he is in Europe!

I had one recently like that too. Seller put a loose bar and chain along with the powerhead in the box in a lightweight cardboard box. By the time it got to me USPS had already "repackaged" it, adding reinforced tape, extra cardboard on the outside to cover the gaping holes and a big orange sticker stating it was poorly packaged. Nothing was missing fortunately but the handguard was busted and the plastic was all scratched up from the bar bouncing around.

This is only the most recent time - there have been a few others. In all cases I have been able to work out some arrangement with the seller, often before having to get ebay involved. Some sellers are very honest and quickly accept their responsibility, offering a refund that we both find acceptable. So I give them positive feedback because, as was said earlier, people make mistakes. Others, like the guy you dealt with, can be true a-holes, blaming everyone but themselves.

Usually once they find out that they will have to refund the original shipping cost (ebay policy) they accept my request for a refund to cover the parts cost. I eat the labor but I do this for a hobby and the saw was going to be dismantled anyway. If I am lucky I have a donor saw with the part(s) I need so I end up with a discounted saw.

Still it is a PITA dealing with. People seem to think the saw is being hand carried in shipping as opposed to the actual abuse that boxes must endure.

I guess....unless you have done business with a seller before and know they pack correctly, you have the means on auction closing to contact them and specify correct shipping with some examples. Or even ahead of time while the auction is still running.
