I am going to get a plug and then I will post a running video of the saw. Then we are going to donate the saw to a charity that supplies firewood for home heating to disabled vets and older folks that can no longer go and get wood themselves.

Good on ya Andy.
Be sure to explain about the heavy unbalanced nature of the saw and all the other stuff that make it the best selling saw in the world hehe. Hope the good folks enjoy a great running firewood saw for a lifetime of firewood. 36 min for a rebuild is very impressive.

that's a pretty good time... we'll try to beat it!

My plan is to raffel the ms390 off at our GTG and the cash will go to a charity...

And here is the time.

Hey! I think that was MY time.... 36hrs 40mins:hmm3grin2orange:

The part number for the valve is 1127 020 9400, the mediacat doesn't give a number for the plug. The decomp valve fits only on the 1127 series, not crossing over to any other models.

Fish, I have a leaking decomp from my 441 that fits my 390 Baileys kit. Surprised to see your comment.

Well, a different part number doesn't mean a different thread size, may be any difference, length, color, composition, etc. But good to know
that the threads are the same, which if that is the case, is the same size/pitch as a 10mm sparkplug.

I thought the stopwatch said 36hrs 40min!

Does anyone know is that plug just a 10mm pipe plug. Do you think a hardware store will carry one or will I have to go thru stihl?

The compression release hole can be plugged with a short bolt 10mm x 1.0mm pitch. It is NOT a pipe thread. It is a straight metric thread. I use a copper washer under the head of the bolt to form a reliable seal. A "kit" full of these copper washers is available from Harbor Freight in their storehouse selection. The kit is an assortment of different size copper washers good for oil drain plugs or compression release plugs. I am sure there are copper washers available from other sources, just used what I had available. Obviously make sure the bolt isn't going to protrude far enough into the cylinder to interfere with the piston. It needs to be short (under 1/2 inch)

I stopped at a local Stihl shop on my way home from work. $3.39 and I was out the door with a plug, although I was looking at the 372xp they had on the shelf pretty hard. I should be able to get it in tommorrow night if nothing else comes up. I am betting it takes me longer than 36 minutes to put the damn plug in. I wii post up as soon as I get it in.

Hey Andy, do you have a P/N for that plug? I've got the aftermarket 390 piston/cylinder from Northwoods saw & it didn't have a plug for the decomp hole included. I've heard Northwoods saw has a plug but with shipping, I wonder if it would be cheaper to get it from the local Stihl dealer - maybe so, maybe no because they charged me $20 for a fuel line :msp_scared:

I think the weren't happy that I was up-sizing the original 290 with aftermarket parts...

Anyway, let me know if you can, please.
Tony
