Hi all. Grande dog from Baileys donated a replacement 290/390 shortblock engine and he said he wanted us to do a timed R&R of the motor at our GTG. I believe our GTG (in Minnesota), was the first to do the swap out. He said he was going to do the same for other GTG's. We started with a donated 290 from a good fellow named Mnfarmer. The saw wasn't complete, it was missing several part and those too also got donated by more of the generous members here on AS. I got the saw home to my house and disassembled it so I could clean it. One of the site sponsors, Tree Monkey, gratiously agreed to do the engine swap. If you do not know who Scott (tree monkey) is well send him one of your saws and he will turn it into a firewood eating beast, I have a couple of saws that he has modded and they are STRONG. Anyways, we wanted to time a tear down and reassembly so Scott had to first put the saw together after I had tore it down for cleaning. He got it together and then we started the clock and he disassembled and reassembled the saw. The one thing we didn't have was a plug for the compression release hole in the top of the cylinder, so unfortunately we did not get a chance to run the saw. The 290 doesn't have a compression release and the replacement engine has a hole for one. This was the only thing we felt should change about this short block kit, it should be sent with a plug for those doing this swap on a 290 because they will not have a comp. release valve. I will post the pictures and the time up here in the next few posts. It was a fun activity to do at our GTG.
Really very good. Thank you so much.
