thinner bar, thinner rails - but this would play into speed the more cuts you did.

Trueness of the groove/rails. - one test I did was I tuned a couple of stihl 36" bars at 13000. Then leaving the tune alone ie. the saw was just running 13000 with the stihl bars. I put a Tsumura 36" bar on it and it was running at 13650. I can only speculate that the thickness of the Tsumura bar or more likely (from everything I've tested) the groove and rails are just cut better and thus you have LESS friction.
Consequently when I put the stihl 13000 tune into wood and then tuned down the Tsumura bar from 13500 to 13000 and put that into the same wood with the same chain - the Tsumura bar still beat the stihl bar by a nice margin.

Why do you suppose the stihl bars are faster than the sugi's?
