I bought a Granberg many yr. ago, probably late 70s or early 80s. Been using it ever since. As others have mentioned, it took me a couple times to figure it out, then it was a no-brainer. I don't know how long I spent fooling with it to get it down, but now I can do a 20" chain in a few minutes.

I shoot a bit of silicone spray along the rod now and then or it will not slide smoothly. A shot of lube and it glides perfectly. You need to loosen the nuts and rotate the file every so often to keep it wearing evenly.

I do have a Maxx grinder now, and I use it after about every dozen sharpenings with the Granberg, and also if I hit a rock or something, of course. I have no experience with the other brands of similar guides. I do know I've put thousands of sharpenings on chains with the Granberg as it works as well as it did when new.
