The "monkey" we are referring to to is Mastermind here on as. It's just because he has a monkey as his avatar. He has a ton of threads on exactly how he does his work. Bsnelling, wicked, or Mastermind. ...take your pick. If I needed a saw done up, I would send it to the monkey.IMG_12540277479309.jpeg

I've been on the site for about 3 years now. It didn't take long from just reading to learn that the following have quite a reputation on here. I haven't had a saw ported yet, but plan to -- I'll be using Randy because I was going to use Brad based on his strong presence here and myriad of videos / instruction, but Brad only does new saws and I've got a 20+ year old 262XP (my avatar) I want to make the best it can be.

I can't see how you could go wrong with:

Wicked Work Saw (Terry)
Mastermind (Randy)
Snellerized (Brad Snelling)
Tree Monkey
Tree Slinger
Simonizer

In the past I've seen Stumpy (stumpbroke saws), I'm going to see about having nmurph fix a blown 346 since he's a 346 wizard (Neal pictures coming soon once I pull muffler)... you just have to read the forum for a while and you will learn a TON.

If you read the whole Simonizer thread, he got a lot of challenging questions from people on here and came through in the end with proving what he can do by porting a saw for free labor or whatever.
Simon is in Canada (northwest near Vancouver?) might be easier to stay domestic with shipping and customs etc.

If it helps I believe Randy is friends with the owner of weedeaterman.com which is a sponsor on this site also. See the "about us" page and it says Mastermind is the guy on the right. Do I have this right guys? That's Randy Evans?

I guess what I'm trying to say is there's a lot more than just a website to the "presence" of these guys who have a ton of reputation on this forum.

Good luck -- I'm sure you will end up with a great setup when you engage one of the builders on here with the knowhow to create a kickin and reliable setup. Hope your 660 comes out anywhere near as good as this one

There are entire build threads, in detail, step by step with pics, on this website, in addition to dyno runs of stock & ported saws.

Use whoever U like, but you have not done UR research Sir!
Lots of good info here if you have time to find and read it all.
search can help alot.:reading::reading::reading::reading::reading::reading::reading::popcorn2:

OP, you came and asked for advice. You were given good advice from quite a few members pointing you to the same group of builders, yet you choose to select your builder bc he has a website and the others don't. Good luck.

BTW, WWS does build a great saw but not because he has a website.

It shows how a properly done website can bring in customers now don't it.

We have some decent saw builders on AS. Most of them are sponsors, too. But two of the best saw builders I've ever seen aren't here. They don't advertise and they don't have websites. They don't need them.

I've asked them to look at this place and they did. Both of them declined to become involved, mostly because of the constant bickering, ankle biting, and newbies arguing with people who know more than they do.

They have all the work they can handle, all through word of mouth advertising and their good reputations. They build saws for loggers and don't mess with dime store play saws. Gotta respect that.

His opening sentence says he's been a longtime follower of AS...seriously? And he has to ask about who to send a saw to? Also, he says he want's a professional to do it...that means someone that earns their living doing porting. I think there is only one member who's sole livelihood is derived from porting saws.

He has 5 posts . But he could be a lurker but would know Randy then.

Yes I haven't "done" my research , since I just started it. I haven't got into the links that everyone has been cool enough to post, and I've got a couple months before I get the saw. Heard great things on snellerized saws and a lot of other builders mentioned. No decision has been made. Since there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here, help a newbie out and tell me about what makes some of these builders stand out. Thanks

Uhhhh, no. At this point you need to stop and do your own research. You asked, and we answered. Now you are asking us to do your leg-work.
