Toney, prehaps you meant what PROFESSIONAL grade saw company has the largest market share??

I believe that any saw manufacturing company could build and market a "pro" line of saws if they chose to. It all comes down to their business strategy and what market segment they choose to address to make money. One thing that Poulan, Husky, Stihl and all the others share as a common, overriding goal is to make money. That's all the shareholders care about in the end.

Doug, you are exactly right about that!!! but i was refering to companys that CURRENTLY market a professional grade saw.

Stihl and all the others share as a common, overriding goal is to make money. That's all the shareholders care about in the end.
Thats also what doomed Mac and Homelite. Building el cheapos that ride on the coat tails of there pro conterparts all the while neglecting the pro saws. pretty soon no one buys the pro saws and all you have left is consumer junk. Reputation is lost, people stop buying the brand altogether.

Short term sales figure increases, no matter the long term
consequences, spur these companies into these tactics. Long
term results do not really bother a lot of these corporate types
as they will likely be working for someone else in 5 years
anyway. The move into big box stores is another step in this
process, and start the slide down from there..............
