Trout: It's not a democracy... we're all guests here. It's like voting what to have for dinner when invited to a friends place;)

lol, good analogy. imo, not entirely accurate in this case. admin will extend the edit time if enough members ask. thats my honest opinion, I work with one of them. I'm sure trimmmed will agree, but we're just mods (read=peons)
IIWM, Id start a thread in S&A asking kindly to extend the edit time. I know I'd vote for it too. a few days already protects the archived threads.

A couple of days would be nice, or even better, leave it how it was... I always fix up my spelling/grammer etc whenever is see an old post needing attention.

Hurry Andy, you've less than 10 minutes to do it!

Dave (DDM) changed it to 60 minutes to other night after it became the topic of discussion.

Not sure why really...

Just saying I only edit to correct spelling or grammar, but you guys complete me...............................................................

But I do make some decent bucks as instigator.............................

It is only $2,000 per annum., but hey, it is easy...

Oh?

"if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all"

I don't remember where I heard that, but it kinda fits this discussion. :monkey:

Rarely do I post something that I feel I want to retract. I am sure it has happened. Live with it. Others may get offended, but that is life. Eventually it will pass.

It really needs to be longer than 24 -that just gets you back to the prior day, and if you only log on each night then the window is gone. I'd vote for 36 to 48 hours.. preferably the later.

I like 48hrs.

I actually liked it the way it was due to finding a way to post pics in PM's.

Both Myself and some others found that you could dig up one of your old posts from a bygone era, and insert the pic or gif you wanted to use there, then just cut/paste the addy for it into the PM and wala you have pics in your PM's.

But (sigh) that is no longer an option.:help:

Nope... the "end result", or objective, is to stop people from maliciously altering or removing their posts...

I just like to fix my typos and other minor errrors. Often I don't see the problem until someone posts a reply and I get to look at the orginal a day or two later. Failures with pics are a problem - they can be cached locally, seen in preview, but the rest of the world can't see them. When the system gets busy, is real easy to post a double post - I did yesterday, and now it's there forever (unless a kind mod steps in).

No, no, no, ta! Don't take it that way! He's saying that YOUR posts don't NEED to be edited. YOU get it right the first time!

+1

If the beer gorilla visits and switches on your computer it may be a while before you realise what he's written...

I hear you Fish!!!!

Almost every post I make, I have some remorse. So I chug a few more
beers, and hammer my original post home. Sometimes I take the contrite
gig as far as I can stomach, but then I get pissed off, and leave that pile
lie where I layed it.
As bad as I have gotten, I have only used the edit feature to correct spelling or grammar, so these ignorant pig farmers here know exactly what I mean!!!!!!

But some of them are so out of it,,,Doesnt really matter if ya spell it wrong or not,,,, they will get hosed up anyway!!!!!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:

Exactly, you hit the nail squarely on the head!

:rockn: :rockn: :rockn:

With the 60 minutes limit, the treads are bound to end up looking more messy than they need to be. :bang:

Lake, this is the first time I have to disagree with you. I know this is a privately owned site, with rules and all, but "the friends place" is a kind of commercial vehicle in the end, which value is created for a huge part by the contribution of its guests. If I loose the right to modify/alter my contributions to this site and they become the eternal property of AS, I am really considering to stop posting here.

Truth to be told, I am kinda p@ssed what happened to Windthrown. The guy was obviously involved in an emotional rally (supported by several AS members) against a bad ebay seller, and instead of being protected by the mods against himself, they choose to pick on him publicly afterwards. Now, I am not the kinda guy that would start deleting my posts in such a situation, but I believe if someone feels that he is not being treated correctly here, that he's free to take his 'belongings' with him and leave.

I believe the quality of the posters make this site what it is, not AS by itself. Darin as well as the mods should realise that. I think in general they do a great job, and I respect them for that.
