Carbide Chains (are they worth it?)

Thanks for the help guys, I didnt think this thread would turn out so well. I agree with a lot of the statements. Unfortunately I think one of the problems is that many of the firefighters are poorly trained not only in using the saws, but in maintaining them. If they would actually go over the saw when they were done using them we probably wouldnt have half the problems we do with the saws. This is something im trying to correct in my firehouse.

I definitely do not want to go cheap on something this important as far as quality, I was just hoping that there was something out there that got the same job done just as well and for less money. I will suggest to my chief that we switch over to rapco b/c they are slightly cheaper than the brand we are using now, and we can buy in larger quantities (spools).

Im also going to look into buying one of those bullet chains and trying one of them out. Thanks for the tip!!
