Just one more reason to buy new saws. Obviously being able to write them off helps a-lot but you don't know how they've been treated, imo a dull chain is as bad as a lean carb setting. No offense Brad but i'm sure you didn't buy it with the intentions of not tearing it apart. Now ebay as much as I hate it has a little bit of buyer protection but craigslist is what it is. I got a guy that bought my wifes 5 yr old camcorder for $60 that was $500 new. He wants his money back beacause it wont play his old analague tapes, nothing wrong with the camcorder just newer than the one he had. If I knowingly sold him a broken camcorder "which I didn't" I would give him his money back, but I told him sorry dud this isn't wal-mart. If you made the wrong purchase in PERSON you bought it! Gettin stung suks but teaches tough monetary lessons.

I for one would like EVERYONE to adhere to this edict.....Then I won't have to sprint to the next craigslist deal trying to beat you suckers to it.

Brad, when a thread turns into a slam fest, you have to learn to click the "unsubscribe" button and never return. They can't argue with you if you aren't here to argue with. If you don't reply, the thread will die in short order.

Not to say there isn't good deals here and there but the ads I see locally are within 30% of new unless they're all beat to he%%. I know some guys get off on finding a hidden treasure which is cool but it's not a 67 stingray for cryin out loud it's a chainsaw. They sell them in shops and stores everywhere. If someone wants to save a few hundred on the chance of getting screwed than so be it, just save the griping for getting screwed on a new saw not a used one.

i have had almost zero luck w/used saws, always get someone elses problems. buying new, while very satisfying, does sting a little up front $$$. but i have never regreated a new saw purchase. (well, maybe a little, there is this new 2156c i have???)

A peek in the exhaust port and a compression test is all I need to see...carry on.

Thank you. Never noticed that button before, just used it on several old thread myself :)

Only took me about 4 months to figure out how to turn off the e-mail notification every time someone responded to a thread I had posted in. Was having to clean out my mailbox on a daily basis.

The above is most likely the only constructive thing to come out of this thread.

I agree but not possible for most folks out there. I can tell by a slow pull of the rope and I know nothing about rebuilding saws. I know when one craps out I buy another, I know good mix and a sharp chain and weekly maintenance keeps that from usually happening. I know that if one of my saws has an issue it's usually warranted. As I said to begin with writing them off is a luxury I have that many don't so I understand trying to get the best deal.

Whatever. That certainly wasn't one of the constructive comments I was referring to earlier. PUI perhaps?

Seemed well-written, and well-intended to me Brad. Nothing is constructive if you ignore it.

If you've seen the movie "My Name is Nobody", with Terence Hill and Henry Fonda, then you've heard what follows.

There was a baby bird that fell out of a tree. It was cold and scared, so it called out loudly: PEEP PEEP PEEP!

A cow took pity on the bird, squatted over it, and dropped a big load of manure. The bird was startled, but warm. Before long, the baby bird decided that, although warm, the smell of the manure wasn't very enjoyable, so it started to call again: PEEP! PEEP! PEEP!

A coyote came along, gently plucked the bird from the manure, and carefully cleaned it off. He then popped the baby bird into his mouth and swallowed him whole.

The moral is that those that crap on you might not be your enemies, and that those that appear to be helping you get out of the crap might not be your friends.

Fair enough,to each his own.

BTW a compression test alone does NOT tell the whole story.....lookie in the exhaust port and not be disappointed.

Yep. Buddy of mine has one of the first 346xp's that has 2 tiny score marks on the jug and has for several years yet has 150lbs of compression. Now granted he maybe puts 8 hrs a year on it but none the less a strong little runner. Oh yeah, he loaned it out or more like one of his buddies borrowed it without asking to cut a stump out of the ground "yes out of the ground " and thats how he got it back.

You really are an arrogant individual aren't you? There was quite a bit of constructive criticism in there, but I guess it's easier to sling mud and slander others than accept some hard truth. I didn't call you any names, I've stayed out of most of these pissing contests and let you go knowing you would get found out for what you are in time. If a person were to go and read some of your older posts they would easily understand where I am coming from.
But that's ok, it's easier to take cheap shots and call me a drunk. I remember what happened to the last character that tried that ploy with me as well.
Karma baby.
