Well, here we are. LOL

Jerry Springer operates on the same premise...

Just one more reason to buy new saws. Obviously being able to write them off helps a-lot but you don't know how they've been treated, imo a dull chain is as bad as a lean carb setting. No offense Brad but i'm sure you didn't buy it with the intentions of not tearing it apart. Now ebay as much as I hate it has a little bit of buyer protection but craigslist is what it is. I got a guy that bought my wifes 5 yr old camcorder for $60 that was $500 new. He wants his money back beacause it wont play his old analague tapes, nothing wrong with the camcorder just newer than the one he had. If I knowingly sold him a broken camcorder "which I didn't" I would give him his money back, but I told him sorry dud this isn't wal-mart. If you made the wrong purchase in PERSON you bought it! Gettin stung suks but teaches tough monetary lessons.
Not to say there isn't good deals here and there but the ads I see locally are within 30% of new unless they're all beat to he%%. I know some guys get off on finding a hidden treasure which is cool but it's not a 67 stingray for cryin out loud it's a chainsaw. They sell them in shops and stores everywhere. If someone wants to save a few hundred on the chance of getting screwed than so be it, just save the griping for getting screwed on a new saw not a used one.
Brad, when a thread turns into a slam fest, you have to learn to click the "unsubscribe" button and never return. They can't argue with you if you aren't here to argue with. If you don't reply, the thread will die in short order.

A peek in the exhaust port and a compression test is all I need to see...carry on.
Whatever. That certainly wasn't one of the constructive comments I was referring to earlier. PUI perhaps?
The moral is that those that crap on you might not be your enemies, and that those that appear to be helping you get out of the crap might not be your friends.
Ed, wood you be the one who craps on another or helps others out of crap?
I agree but not possible for most folks out there. I can tell by a slow pull of the rope and I know nothing about rebuilding saws. I know when one craps out I buy another, I know good mix and a sharp chain and weekly maintenance keeps that from usually happening. I know that if one of my saws has an issue it's usually warranted. As I said to begin with writing them off is a luxury I have that many don't so I understand trying to get the best deal.
Fair enough,to each his own.
BTW a compression test alone does NOT tell the whole story.....lookie in the exhaust port and not be disappointed.
