The Nati, Oh Hi, Yo
Anyone else got the US Stove Clayton 1600 M Add on Furnace and want to talk about it? I would give my motorcycle up before it. Got it at Tractor Supply and it was reasonable. 2nd year burning it, had woodstoves for 35 years prior to this.

have an 1800 samething only bigger love it heat a 3000 sq foot house with it our only source for heat.

Can't imagine this thing being much bigger in a house. This lists 3k heating 135k BTU's. Put a humidifier on it. Haven't burned a drop of oil in these 2 years. 28" log 12" dia and I put maybe 9 ave splits and get a good burn over night for about 8 to 10 hrs.

Have you got any picts of yours and how long have you had it? Tractor supply Co had a smaller one which is the 1557 gets a lot of talk on here. You get any flack from the neighbors?

I have one, 3rd year, wood stove before. It is tied into the end of the duct-work. The blowers just push the air through all the openings. Air recirculates from the 1st floor back into the finished basement and filter cabinet in the back of the wood furnace.
Have a LP furnace for back up but it has not heated the house in 6 years.

I have a hotblast 1950 the epa certified model works great burns less wood with the same heat output as the jonson I had before almost no smoke except on startup plus it has a viewing window the only draw back it there are no shaker grates just an ash grate abut 3"x5" I miss the shaker grates but love that it eats less wood I heat a 3000sq ft old farm house

why would i get any flak from neighbors? this is my second season using it first season being ducted in house

Yep, got a 1600M.

And I live down the road from ya.

Nice, You have any probs with the shaker arm unbolting periodically?

That is all I have to complain about. Just bolt it back on. Oh, yeah, I broke a top firebrick and got another at TS for $3.29. Where do ya live in the Nati?

Dude , it sounds like you live in the house with me!

I , in the last week replaced two cracked fire bricks and a shaker arm bolt... no kidding!

I live over in Colerain... about 2 miles from Mt. Rumpke .

I don't know, man, last year I cleaned the chimney out from the neighbor's driveway out of my cherry picker. Called them this year once, and later again on the ans machine. They never answer the phone. They never replied to message and I told them I would take the storm damage out of their oak while there for free.

Finally gave up and backed up in the hill into my yard after cutting a dogwood tree and could reach the chimney. Just think they don't like the smoke. They are not downwind to prevailing winds but sometimes it swirls. I may be reading into it? They have banned OWB's here I think or are talking about.

Old Colerain Ave area?

Yeah I got a couple of firebricks from Lowes and they were a quarter inch or so too short and they kept falling down driving me nuts. As for the shaker arm nut, I prob (we) should put a retaining (2nd) nut against the first one and tighten them together. Prob never will, I am real lazy about some things.

I also removed the flap above the firebox that retains the smoke from coming back out of the box. It kept falling off and the clanging drove me nuts and it blocks wood sometimes. Don't miss it at all. Just open the baffle for ten seconds prior to door and not much back smoke.

Shaker grate is nice. This one has a nice tray with a collapsable handle. Pop it out after shaking down the ash and go out in pour it in the corner of the yard and worry about stuff in the spring.

i live on 18 acres so no worrys from neighbors only thing i dont like on mine is when i bought it was special order they only do one run a year in august for the 1800 and the fit and finish was not that great on all the sheet metal screws missing bent broken etc. the factory is about 30 miles from me and wanted to pick up there i figured less chance of gettin beat up but they would not do that had to go to there store in chattanooga kind of pita!!! and on monday the high limit switch went haywire called there store said 2 weeks to get one i said nofw called factory they said 7-10 days begged and pleaded finally they let me pay over the phone and picked up part i dont see what the big deal is but oh well .

Here is a pict of mine with the humidifier. Friend of mine is in bus. and he suggested the humidifier and installed the unit after I got it here and in place.

Windows are all steamed upstairs from humid. thru ducts.

Wow, so tidy, surreal.

I'd really like to get one of these and go cold turkey on the LP. The issue I face is where I have to put the furnace makes it impossible to go straight up with the chimney. The only option seems to be through the basement wall and up the outside of the house. It would be about a 12 ft. horizontal run to the wall. Do any of you guys have similar circumstances? If so, how did everything work out? The wall I would go through is on the backside of the house so it doesn't have to be pretty...just safe and functional.

I think mine only allows a 6' flue to the chimney. You need to check with the mfctr. I was real lucky (better lucky than smart IMO) and I had an open chimney and the thing set up to run just about 4'.
