would this work to get a climber in a tree fast if he just tends his hitch or would it create too much stress on the TIP?
yup yup somethin just like that except no mechanical rope grab maybe a prusik with a pulley tending... a chipper winch would be the fastest way to get up without using a friction hitch
We do it quite a bit but not much with the climbing line. If the line is in a block we clip into the rigging line and the climber tends his own slack or if pays close attention to his lanyards if there's no top line. We put the tail of the climbing line in the GRCS sometimes but it usually through a natural crotch we use that more as an assist and not just to pull our fat arses up. We use a 28v Milwaukee angle drill and keep a spare battery on charge on the jobsite. I go about 220 lbs with my gear and my partner probably goes 280 or more. It will pull me up but my partner has to give it some help or it grunts to a halt.

Definitely low gear for us. I really had intended to make a video to show that it can be done with a battery powered drill but like so many other things I never got around to doing it. Maybe next year. Are you using the 44:1 or the 22:1 setting when giving a lift to you or your buddy?
