Hi Guys...

Help me decide...

I can get the 22 ton new from lowes with my 10% code and 6 mos no interest with payments for apprx 910.00 out the door with tax. Maybe would have to buy 69.00 log catcher if I want so this goes up slightly if I decide to buy it down the road. I like 6 mos to pay it off too.

I can get the 27 ton used from a bit of a drive (1 hr) to nearby state for 850.00 cash out of pocket. Comes with log catcher of course. No paperwork so cant take part of the remainder warranty. Buying it as is as they say. It was used maybe a hand full of times and looks real clean from pics. So this is cheaper than new 22 ton but not by much since I have to pay for gas tolls etc. and time to get there to pick it up.

I am new to splitting so I don't know what I will come across in the future. Most of what I have now is not what people describe as knotted or crotchy etc. Clean rounds is what I got now and not too big either in circumference, 20 inches maybe?

Talked to DHT and they sided with the 22 ton since its faster cycle time and if it comes across something to big \ tough, a 2nd hit with it and it should do it. They said the tonnage is not that fare apart so its not an easy answer to go bigger and its worth it. I'd get my warranty which they agreed would be beneficial.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance...

I have a 22t dht and log catcher. Has not stopped yet. I have only put about 6 cord through it but nothing has stopped it. Log catcher is worth the money trust me. If you search around here you will see 99% of people who cut and split their own firewood run a 22ton with zero issue. I see no point in going up on tonnage for my uses
