Do you ever change your gas filter?

I guess I'm just simple - I use a bar wrench, bring up the fuel line - grab the filter with my fingers - pull it off the line - spit on the new one where it inserts on the line and stuff it back down in the tank.
I don't have any part numbers for my tools.

Real good point. I wouldn't have known that. I would think the fuel line would be stiff enough not to collapse and grab the filter.

The 359 manual instructions say to whack off 1/8" of the fuel line whenever you replace the filter. They refer to the "miter" or "mitre" end which must be some sort of Scandinavian terminology. I think they just mean to whack off a small chunk of the line.

Thanks again to all for the great info. You made my day! I have been pondering that stupid filter issue for two weeks.

Is it possible that you are talking about the angle cut (mitre/miter) on the end of the fuel line that you need to cut to get the new line into the tank needs to be cut off?

If a fuel filter still looks absolutely perfectly clean, might it still need replacing?

I suppose I could cut one open sometime and take a good look inside.

Yup! Replace it, fuel filters pick up the microscopic dirt particles in the fuel. And replacing fuel filters often solves a lot of "running funny" problems also. A lot of times the saw will act like it is running out of fuel even though it is full, when the fuel filter is clogged.:greenchainsaw: :hmm3grin2orange:
