My Irish dealer sells "Nicholson" chainsaw files which originate from Cooper Tools in Brazil. We find them OK. What files are best to use please?

Not much to choose from here, either Stihl or Gernan made Husky/Jred (Pferd, I believe). I prefer the Husky ones, by a very slight margin.

You got Stihl files Mr. SawTroll? Gosh, now why doesn't our dealer have them here? I feel sooooooo left out ;)

Further on these files, what's the general concensus of opinion with regard to "dressing" used files to peak them up for use again? Yes/No/Maybe??

I think my beveled square stihl files are made in Brazil. So maybe that company Nicholson produces them for stihl on the square files and others.
Yep, just confirmed it made in Brazil on my stihl square files.

Perhaps perhaps perhaps..... you could be onto something there Mr. Cut4fun. I'm sure Brazil is not all that big of a place....:biggrinbounce2:

The files are sold under the brand name "Nicholson" but manufactured by "Cooper Tools..." in Brazil.

Ummmmm... I wonder why that is? $$$$$$$$

It is pretty hard to get a 7/32" file into the correct position on a new 3/8" RS/RSC chain, and it also makes sence in the last part of the chains life (actually on Oregon chains also).

Inbetween, it doesnt really matter if you use 13/64 or 7/32.......

The Nicholson story: Nicholson is part of the Cooper Tools, the parent company, who also own Crescent and other tool brands.

The most common places of origin for chainsaw files are Germany (Pferd), Portugal (Bahco/Sandvik), and Switzerland (Vallorbe). Something sourced by Nicholson probably isn't going to be too bad, they are the dominant player in the file world, and I've never had one that was "bad", although I've never used a chain file from them, and don't use regular files enough to wear them out.

Being I cant find the stihl square beveled files anymore, I started ordering Viiala files from here. Maybe this will help some of you guys out with limited choices. They carry several makers files.

I use timber savage files, they're pretty good the remove material quick but dull pretty fast. My dealer sells timber savage, stihl, GB and Frostbite files.:D  :rockn: :jester:
