3 ounces per gallon (89 octane) of good quality "air cooled" 2 cycle oil will not foul plugs and will take care of your bearings. nuff said...IMHO

I just bought a Shindaiwa 488 new but old stock manual says 40:1. Called dealer because web site said 50:1, he said 50:1 ok 40:1 is better. He said the reason it's 50:1 is because some people can not mix 40:1 since all packaging is 2.6 oz per gal. I wonder if there is any truth to this?

It depends on who/what...

The name brands are all at 50-1, the others have charts, and usually are set
at 40 or 32 ratios.
