Newfie and DDM, you should have got some popcorn cooking and a cold Pepsi, lounge chair and some Jimmy Buffet music and stayed to watch the show.
I am in the land clearing business. Unless it's a few limbs or small cedar tree out in a pasture, I call a professional! If it ain't safe, it ain't safe so why tempt fate?
You should see the Texas Hill Country. With all the oak wilt, every bozo with a flatbed and a 5 lug trailer has a saw. Firewood choppers, while a necessity, are also responsible from bringing down some of the oldest, rottenest (sp?), dead oaks I have ever seen. Most times they fall out in a field but often they are dropped on top of nice trees leaving the land owner with NOTHING! Free labor for the wood is attractive to homeowners who know nothing and since our biz ain't regulated, (though firewood quality is), any hack with a machete or electric saw can be a tree guy.
