Went to fall a big snag. My saw with 24" bar was still in the fix-it shop. Cleared all around it, picked up the MS310 with 20" bar. Looked at snag, looked at saw that looked like a midget next to the stem. That sucker has to be over 4' dbh.
Decided to take the one next to it which was a bit smaller. Still big - around 36". Cleared around that one. Aimed to fall it to right side of brush pile, did undercut, saw it was misaimed to the left due to the small saw. Went ahead with back cut. Fell okay but off planned line. Cleared brush, get to pu and find I smashed the mirror and put a big dent in the door. Only the very tip of the snag hit it.

Mistakes:
1. Fell a tree with an undesized saw.
2. Didn't correct the undercut when I knew it wasn't what I wanted.
3. Didn't look around to see where the PU was before falling it (the first snag couldn't have hit without falling backwards against a bad lean)..

I think the Bailey's website has some pictures of a guy's truck where the tree was felled lengthwise across the entire truck. Totally destroyed the truck. I think parking really far away has it's advantages when felling!

Bob, you're thinking of another supply company. not Baileys, but they sell the same basic things.

Trucks:

The only trucks to park close to a tree are Dodges, Fords and them thar foriegn trucks. Ha, as you can see I'm strickly GM. Now let this thread roll. Had to say it. Everyone take care. Lewis.

Well, Lewis, I can respect your liking of GM vehicles, but I personally HATE GM, I'm a ford person.

MY favorites to see under a tree are those ugly nissan titans, the toyota tundras and those UGLY hummer H2 POS yuppie trucks, the H1 was THE ULTIMATE hummer, with a diesel engine and more torque than the H2, plus deeper river fording abilities, and a better look to top it all off.

Turcks.

I have a 1997, GMC ext cab, K-1500, with 5.7 L engine. She's fairly loaded with most of the toys. Has only 45,000 miles on it and gives me ( at last check) 19 mpg. I can't complain on this truck that much. Has never let me down. Lewis.

I wonder if OSA knows that the 6.5 in the H1 consumes cylinder heads like they were candy. "Worlds most capable 4wd" , no it's too wide to run the Rubicon Trail.

And Newfie, I'll bet he has some opinions on women too.

Sedanman, If you are refering to the Rubicon Trail in El Dorado County I must call you on this one. The hummers have run the trail many times. They do have a couple of rough spots because of the narrow area between rocks. Their height makes up for it and they are able to get through. This information was supplied to me by a man named Bob Springer. He has been going onto the Rubicon Trail for 50 years straight. Have you ever been on the Rubicon trail? Mike (My family has been in El Dorado County for over 150 years.{I know BFD!})

guess im a gm kinda person,
86 1ton dually 4wd

89 3/4ton 4wd long bed
97 1ton dually
00 3/4ton 4wd

and a 03 F350 ford 4wd long bed ext cab.

Plates cost me $860 this wednesday :(

Rupe, No I have not personally been there. I have seen photos of a narrow stretch where there was barely enough room to get a Jeep Wrangler, if someone put a Hummer though there they did so with body damage. The original Hummer is/was an awesome vehicle but for the money one could buy two Grand Cherokees and have enough cash left over to make one of them a beast, saving the other for "soccer mom duty" . I'll see if I can find some digital pics of my buds Cherokee (the little square one) it has homebuilt suspension, a Dana 44 front and a 60 rear. We drove it up the back of a flatbed and it had 3 wheels on the ground with the left front a shade over 5 FEET off the gound. THe rear quarters are cut and tubbed to allow for extreme articulation. Rocker panels made of 1/8" steel plate and they still get banged up. The Rubiicon is a bit too far away for us to play there. If you say a Hummer can do it I'll have to believe you.

The H2 has no more off road capabilty than a yukon/sub as they use the same chassis. Over priced, ugly POS in my book and a real testament to the stupididty of the people who one one.

The hummer was voted in the top 10 WORST 4wd's in magazines in NZ and Aus. "made to be shot at and it shows."

They kinda remind me of Harleys, if it wasnt for the rep they got from their orgins, they wouldnt sell. A go anywhere vehicle as long as the buyer is rich, the track is wide and the fuel truck close.
