cant really tell too much from your pictures, obstructions, how much room to work in the removal, not only getting it down but getting it onto the truck...
and the job isnt just time in the yard, its time to get to the job and time into dumping
youre going to screw up some bids, thats part of the learning curve
dont be the guy with a chain saw and a truck
if youre going to do this right, do it right
youll know when the job is done if you bid it right
starting is hard, once you build a name its easier to bid higher
having the right equipment makes it easier to finish jobs quickly
not much in the way this time its just what is over the house
under the elm is all concreat easy room 30 ft wide about 16 deep
the tree is growing from a round cut out about 5 ft across no roots coming up just some lifting of the concreat a few cracks rise from side walk root lifting
other trees nothing in the way just new to the chinese elm wood not shure it seams strong nothing weak like cotten wood
I have a guy that will take the wood for free most times he unloads it he is just two blocks from my house and sells fire wood low bead dump trailer for rounds
12x7x6 dump bead truck for chipping way more room than needed for this job
and yes I really dont want to be the guy that has a chainsaw and a pick up
I sank $ into my truck i wore out the first one and have had to rebiuld my first chipper and am ready to get my second one up and running soon all bought used
and thousands into gear for climbing and rigging love this work sounds crazzy but i do enjoy this
yes its hard work its hot and not always easy but i enjoy it
so i just have to learn how to turn it into money any pointers those of you that want point me the way you have a chance i worked with tree care pros for two years have taken classes for safty climbing rigging need to do more for power line cert just for the knowledge
I dont want to do line clearance contraacts but would like to at some point be able to do work for the city contracts as ther is no one that dose that for my city
but i dont want to rush i want to take my time and do it the right way not grow to fast I just never learned the art of bidding I can sell ok preseant well just the bid part

ok, im right with you on all of that, except asian elms not being weak like cotton wood, neither is a particularly strong tree
if in doubt, bid them high, you already know what it costs to run a company by the sounds, you need more then beer money for this
be ready to show your insurance, encourage homeowners to ask for it from other people, and not only see the policy, but to call the company and verify its good
theres no reason not to have all the info with you when you bid

so if I get this I should be running 2 grounds man and a climber around $120 an hour in this economy ?
than I got around 25 per hour for truck chipper saws wear and tear on rops gear ect
so bid at $860 gives me 6 hrs to do the job should be doable in that time just seams like to me its worth around $900 to $1200 but i dident figure it that way at the time
i have since got a way to name a price than start reducing the price tell the ho is happy by removing stump grinding and large wood rounds hauling ect from the qoute taking it from what would be $1200 to say around $960 sounds better  and i am up a$100 bucks from my qouted $860 some times ther ok with paying for stump ginding privet party latter and having some one pick up the wood for free

i shoot for 250-300 per hour and kick myself if i come in under 225
anything really high risk or technical i dont have a problem hitting at 500 per hour, or if i bring a crane in higher still
stumps are always bid separately and if you got people "taking the wood" they need to have it out of there, a wood pile in the front yard for a week or the crap under the wood pile not raked up generally doesnt fly with customers and therefore not good for you
fuel 4$ per gallon
workmans comp 19%
repairs
replacements
expansion
all that #### adds up

tks I will go for no less than $ 225 per hr to start and work my way up from ther till i start to lose about 1 out of 5 bids than ill say im good with this tell that ratio is down or up than ill adjust it again tks for the info i would have lost a lot in a short time

You may be over thinking things a bit. I tend to look at a tree and say "that's a 1000 dollar job, that a 1500 job, that's a 2000 job ect. On the cheap that tree over the house would be a 1500 tree maybe 2000. Local pricing obviously is a big factor. I have no problem letting a job go. It's better to loose a job than to loose money on a job. If the guy with no insurance with the pickup gets the job and that is what the HO wants let them have it. It does not make any sense for me to be chasing around a couple of hundred bucks here or there.

Respectfully I say you would starve to death here lol. What I see is in metropolitan areas you guys have more work to chose from here a 1k tree is very large like 36 inch 110 foot tall pine, oaks may exceed 2500 but rarely and that would be 56 inch dbh stuff so around half priced in your market.

well as we have all had this happen
i was under bid on this tree it might look like it was not in bad shape but then after seaing the first two limbs
explode on the way down
on the riggging line on a smooth portawrape glide and feeling the tree respond
it was a good thing to make the call to pice it out small and take our time
as the trunk under ground was cracked thee ways
