I own a 5100 and two 7900. I think performance wise the 7900 has no equal in it's class. Reliability, dealer network, parts, etc. open questions in my area. I did post that my ig switch fell off today, but that has been common to my pro friends that run husky, too. (Though it's never happened to my Huskies yet.)

I've said it before, the 7900 is the funnest saw I've ever run. LIght for the power, smooth even power, gobs of torque, starts and runs great. My 7900 with a fresh square ground chain is a near religious experience. Pretty much everyone that runs mine leaves considering getting one.

Can't wait until I get it running again!

I getting used to my 5100, but don't think it is as well rounded a package. Smooth, though, and decent power. A little slow to return to idle, but I now let the chain scrub off just a bit of speed as I throttle down in each cut early. Mine is quick to flood cold, but I am getting that figured out as well. Switch is opposite of say my 066, and so now I have to actually look at the saw to turn it off so I don't choke it by accident.

Musch,
I was not trying to single you out. (I didn't even know that you owned one) I was just trying to ask a question to the entire board.

Nice try with the FINGER though!!! LOL!!!

There is no way that I would buy a saw with so little dealer support.

Check out your signature - HA HA HA, where can you buy parts for those saws? Well, all but the Stihl.

I own one. It runs strong. Lots of Dolmar dealers by me - parts are 2 days out when needed/not in stock. We have great support in this neck of da woods.

Why did you start this thread if you aren't gonna buy one? A better question is, why did I waste my time and respond :bang:

Yup, I have a 7900, I've even cut down a couple of trees with it.

Is it the perfect saw, well none are.
Is it a darn good saw, YUP :)

Pics to prove it too :)

Cheers

Ian

I had been telling some co-workers about the 5100 and how sweet I thought it was. They are Stihl boys. One guy gave his 028 Super away for $50.00 after running the Dolmar. The other swore his 029 was the best saw in the world. Now he is trying to justify a new saw purchase to his wife.
That pretty much does it for me. I think it is the best 50cc out there and do not hesitate to recommend them

Oh that's right, he asked for a picture. Here's was the first pic of my 7900.

I got a blue 7900 in there somewhere, out of my 11 or so saws it is my go to saw.

Ive got a 7900 and a 510.For a hobby cutter and over blown saw geek I cant give you a good durability assessment.I have a stable of seven that i run with so no one gets run constant. But i can say that the 7900 I have box stock, never fails to impress anyone that runs it.I find its air filtration as good as Husky,Its weight compareable. It has an inboard clutch that is good for cleanup, but the little pieces of foam in there are a PITA.It feels good in the hand, but demands you pay attention when you start it cold, especially the 510,which i seem to flood if i dont do my part.I have a hardware store in RI that sells Dolmar and services,And Curtis power it Ct nearby, where you can get all saw needs for sure,as these people have their stuff together.I dont know if I like them better than Husky,But they make a good addition to the flock.

How many of you actually OWN a DOLMAR 5100 or 7900.

I want Pics. Everyone is recommending them, do you actually own one?

Let the thrashing begin.

I've let this one go for just too long....

-They look like a suppository
-The only dealer is all the way across town (My Husky dealer is a "DIY" place, not much "support" there either, but I survive)
-I'm thinking about doing one the HD way eventually
-I'm still open to buying a 460 or a 372 basketcase and re-doing it when I get the money together.
-I'm not falling for the hype, but historically they have made very good saws
-it's an 80cc class saw, my 80cc Mono/Wards is broken and obsolete
-If I go the Makita route, it's a strange blue color and will stick out on the shelf...bad for wife factor.
-I can't think of anything else...ask SawTroll, maybe it's heavy...

Ill admit that the rounded shape is different, but some people here think that the wildthing is what a saw is supposed to lok like:chainsaw:

I have a 5100, and a 120si. I used to use the 120 for everything. Now I only use it for felling 18" or bigger. The 5100 is so close in the 16" and under, I don't bother to use the 120. Here is a video of me competing with the 5100 last summer. The class was 45cc to 67cc. The time for the 2 5100's for 3 cuts was within a second of saws such as 365, 036. Pretty impressive.

No picture of my 7900 yet, but if I was trying to deceive you, it wouldn't be hard to come up with one. Here's my excellent 5100...
