I've let this one go for just too long....

-If I go the Makita route, it's a strange blue color and will stick out on the shelf...bad for wife factor.
Yes, oldsaw that is a very good point. I'm going to have to be very careful about the new 5100s, or just paint it orange.
I just got a 5100s and ran it for about 1/2 hour yesterday. It really impressed me the way it held it's rpms without even being broken in. It seems heavier than it's listed weight but not uncomfortable. The reason I bought this saw because of the excellent local dealer. Very friendly and took a trade in--even gave me some cash for my poulan. I was originally in the market for a 346xp or MS260 but I'm glad it worked out this way. A new 346xp would be $484+tax and it would have the cat muffler.

I've ran the 026 several times but I don't think it cuts as fast as the 5100s. I'll open another can of worms debating over Oregon 20LP vs Stihl .325 RS?

Funny how no one ever shows the other side of the 5100...:)

Here ya go.

That's pretty neat, an anti-gravity chainsaw, pulls the logs up to it for the cut, and super-vacs the chips.:biggrinbounce2:

Well, I don't have one, so all I can add to this thread is

MOOOOOOOOOO...............:hmm3grin2orange:

I stopped in the local HD last night and cruised through the tool rental. They did have a 6401 for sale for $229. It did has a new Carlton non-safety semi chisel chain on it. It also had a broken retainer for one of the clips that holds the air filter cover in place. Over all, it looked like it had been tossed around quite a bit. Picked it up and turned it over and the whole underside of the saw was covered in bar oil. Pulled on the starter and I thought that the decomp valve was pushed in. Nope, it was out. The newer rental saws were sitting next to the one for sale. Big difference in compression when I tried the starter on one of those. I am beginning to think that I should check out a HD in another neighborhood. The couple of 6401's I have looked at at this particular location have been rode hard and put away wet.

OK I finally got it back from my brother. So here's a picture.
I got my helper showing the othersides.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Nice pics. I am actually being a wise guy in that everyone's shots aren't showing this:

Image is one is a pic of me doing a boring cut with my 7900, although I think I posted that one once before.

What in the heck is that chain for, Bturner?

That is to keep the first tree from coming to meet me when I sever it. That's the skinny end of the trees, 25 inches diamter on the tape. They free spanned maybe 60 ft between the tops which I didn't want to mess with, and the rootballs which are on the other side of the what is left of the building. You can't see it in the picture, but the trees crushed the middle of the building and there is more somewhat upright structure to the right and out of the picture.

And in fact when I finally did cut the first tree free, it jumped out and took all the slack out of the leftmost chain. I was glad I had it on there.

In this pic it's about 30 ft to the edge of what is standing of the building, but there is some crushed building under the branches I've yet to remove. I blocked the logs and took out the middle sections of both trees that day, and returned later to work on the lower stuff.

Glad there is professional loggers out there for that work above
and I guess thats why we all have are place in the world and cutting wood to me is just a hobby for fun. That looks down right dangerous. Job well done you pros. Cut safe.
