Hi,

Seems to be many guys who knows the history about chainsaws here. I had a discussion about when MS 170 and MS 180 first was released. Seems like those chainsaws has been around for ages, maybe they have been updated through the years but the Model names has been around for as long as I can remember (not that old...).

Please if anyone know the history, share, I tried to google it but I don't seem to find the answer.

The 017 was introduced 1995, the 018 in 1999. The 018 probably was supposed to fill the power gap between the 017 and the 021. In 2002 the model names changed to MS170 and MS180 with minor differences (oil/fuel caps, etc.)

The MS170/180 had new cylinders compared with the 017/018. Main difference is the new 4 channel open port vs 2 channel, so it burned more efficiently.
I don't believe the oil/fuel caps have changed, that was only on the 021/MS210 upwards.
