Great Thread! I just realized how old it is and that I only posted one saw in it. So here's my two 1050s and my XL12. I won't post the second original EZ for fear of breaking Mtfallsmikeys heart.

Beautiful saws, buzz...I see you use the stack "muffler" on the XL12 like mine. Kinda loud but bearable.

here are my 2 Homelites. the first is my SXLAO, 16" windsor, NOS dawg, runs like new, great comp.

picked up a C-52 today for cheap

don't know anthying about it except it turns over and there is a dent in the handle on the top.

That dent on the handle, and the friction tape on the rear grip both mean it's completely worthless. I'll send you some $$$ for shipping and you can send it to me for disposal.

J/K friend. I love C-Series Homelites. That's a clean looking C52. It certainly belongs in this thread. It's basicaly the same thing as a C5 or C51. With some exceptions, most parts interchange within the C-Series (C5/C51/C52/C7/C71/C72/C9/91) and XP-Series (XP1000/XP1020/XP1050/XP1100G/XP1130G/XP200/XP2100/XP3100G) families.

The C5/51/52 is a 4.7ci (77cc) saw. Heavy, loud, and vibes a bit. Not too fast, but has good torque. Tough, and reliable as a claw hammer. Has a Tilloston HL series carb that takes an RK88HL rebuild kit. 3/16" ID automotive fuel line works well as a replacement.

Edit:

RandyMac beat me to it...

I am not lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (RandyMac!!)
I know I am in the Homelite thread!

Can some one in a nut shell give me break down in the 990-G VS.909-G
I believe it is just a production style (year they were made), or am I assuming again! I did look on Acres, but the only real difference I see is the year of production.

Thanks guys!
My hippie lovin Homey dudes! (come on I am poking!! LOL!))

Minor production upgrades. Is that enough nut for you Teddy?

Ya! THANKS RANDYMAC!!!

I would only assume, after looking on Acres that only some one that has run them would really know the differences, besides the obvious! Thanks!!

There really are no obvious differences between the 909 and 990. Homelite did change the muffler opening to the clutch from the flywheel side about this time, but it is easy to swap one for the other. The real difference between the 2 is, I believe, the clutch. Homelite upgraded to a 3/4" wide shoe from a 5/8" shoe, and the spider and drum also. The truly major changes occured between the 9-23/9-26 and 900 when the displacement was increased and the engine cover modified. Then between the 900 and 909 when the air filter was upgraded from the round style to a small engine cartridge style (Homelite beat Stihl by about 30 years on this one), the rear handle changed updated for the air filter change and kill switch location, the muffler changed from the cast aluminum to the smaller box type, and changes to the idler gear mount and gearcase. Finally, the starter drive was changed between the 990 and 995 from the ball drive to an overrunning type. I may have missed something here.

Of course, one could get 2 different reductions no matter what model saw you had and clutches (among other things) were certainly different between direct and gear drives.
