There really are no obvious differences between the 909 and 990. Homelite did change the muffler opening to the clutch from the flywheel side about this time, but it is easy to swap one for the other. The real difference between the 2 is, I believe, the clutch. Homelite upgraded to a 3/4" wide shoe from a 5/8" shoe, and the spider and drum also. The truly major changes occured between the 9-23/9-26 and 900 when the displacement was increased and the engine cover modified. Then between the 900 and 909 when the air filter was upgraded from the round style to a small engine cartridge style (Homelite beat Stihl by about 30 years on this one), the rear handle changed updated for the air filter change and kill switch location, the muffler changed from the cast aluminum to the smaller box type, and changes to the idler gear mount and gearcase. Finally, the starter drive was changed between the 990 and 995 from the ball drive to an overrunning type. I may have missed something here.

Of course, one could get 2 different reductions no matter what model saw you had and clutches (among other things) were certainly different between direct and gear drives.

Wow Chris. That's quite a display of Homelite Muscle. Don't think any creamsicles or caution cones wanna try sitting on that bench. I dig seeing the Farmall in the background too!

Well I have a c52 and a c6 but don't no the cc or hp on the c6 so don't no if that one counts

sorry bean a long hot humid day at work I meant a 1958 or 59 ez6 that should be better

The "C6" thing was bugging me too. Glad you figured it out The EZ6 is basicaly the same as an "Original EZ". They're a good, old 5.0ci upright Homelite. They take the same bars and clutch drums as the C-Series saws. The chain lengths (driver counts) are the same as they are for C-Series as well. I have ran a 25" bar and chain from my EZ on one of my C5's without issue...

That piston looks in good shape. Three rings in a 5-30 eh? Cool. Is this the saw you pictured earlier (the one with the welded parts), or is it a new aquisition from yesterday?

It is newer, but not from yesterday. The CL guy blew it off, I made three attempts, twice at his house, maybe something came up or he was cowering in a back room havin' a fit of seller's remorse.

You got another 5-30N? They're getting to be like C5's for you. If it was a Homelite, then I can certainly understand the seller's remorse thing. Hard to let go of a good Homelite...

Sent you a PM...:givebeer:

The CL guy had a pile of plastic back yard saws, but two were Partner 500s, I was going to be in that area anyway, not a big deal. I need to gather up a few parts for the 5-30, it's good enough to put a couple bucks into.
I put new tires on the Ranchero, it drove great, the old tires still looked ok, but were from 1995, they had gotten weird.

We took loads of pics, camera failed, it's in the trash now. I got only a few out of dozens.

Great pic Randy. Is Annie wearing your shoes? I don't see the red hat.

Took a sick day from work. XXXX them if they can't take a joke. Gonna see if I can get the 77 lit. Maybe rebuild the carb in one of the C5's too...

I too am taking a sick day, I'm testing the new staffing system, there will be only three people running the place, two on the floor.

We did do our annual hat shopping in Ferndale, no red ones this time.

I took a few at the Samoa Cookhouse, one has the lone Homelite, and photographic proof that my Palco hardhat is still on display. Annie wouldn't let me take it back, so if anyone else, lifts it, let me know. You can almost see the sentimental phrase I scratched above the logo.

Nice. Can't quite read the 'inscription'. Randy Rollins eh? Namechange since then................................or did you log under an AKA? Probably 'confidential, need to know' information...

I have an arborist/fishing guide friend that lives in the Methford/Ashland Oregon area now. His name is Casey Rollins. He was amoung the group of nuts that used I to make the 'howl at the moon' trip with in the Lassen NF every year. He's the only guy I've let run the C5 I got from you...

Haven't been to the Samoa Cookhouse in about 17 years. How long has your hardhat been on display there? I'll be sure to look for it next time I'm there. Maybe you should leave the welded 5-30N there on loan to keep the other Homelite company. It exudes "logging experience"...

I still remember the two-man Mac hanging from the rafters...............and the last slice of pie I had (to beat my buddy in an eating contest). My stomach still aches (ah to be young and dumb). Heard they're under new ownership (from the time I was there last). Hope things are still as good as before. Gotta make it back soon.:givebeer:

I have a long list of names to choose from, I mix and match, parts of my distant family know me as someone else entirely.
The Cookhouse is pretty much the same, if they screwed with it, they would lose.
Yep, that Mac is still there.

A signed saw.

when you visit next time, you can read that inscription.

Everything looks the same as before. I'm very relieved to hear that the Cookhouse is the same as always. The list of "anchors" (landmarks and mementos of my past) that I have in life is getting shorter by the day. Glad to see that this one is still holding fast.

I will be sure to read your hardhat the next time I'm there. Upon further examination of the pic you posted..........................I think I'm able to see through the glare and read your inscription. Shame on you Mr Rollins...:censored:

if I can take a 25" bar on the EZ6 how big can I go on the c52 Ive heard 30-32" but what is ok for it also thank you for pointing out the c6-ez6 thing the original bar on the ez6 is a 22"

Both saws can run a 36" bar. They're much happier with a 21-24" bar though. Right now I have a 21" bar on one and a 19" on the other. Both running .404 chain. For general firewood cutting and 'messing around', these saws ballance best with a 21" in my experience. The 24" (also .404) only goes on one of the C5's when needed.

I was thinking keeping ez6 original and putting a 28-30" on the c52 I have about 20 big cottonwoods that didn't survive this flooding I need to fell if it ever dries up.I use my Lombard commando to fell 30" and smaller it has a 20" roller nose bar 3/8 drive full skip chain 8 tooth sprocket and oversized piston rings. It gets it dun but I need bigger bigger BIGGER.Funny thing everybody seas their lowed I don't think their lowed just sound great

It's not a real old saw but here is a 360 I picked up this past weekend for fifty bucks. Runs really good after a carb cleaning.

Nice 360. Those are indeed 'real' Homelites, and are damn good saws. They're kind of a pain to work on..........but so what...

Here is my McHomelite. Maybe a 1050???

Ex-DOT saw hence the paint scheme

Now that's interesting. Looks like a 1020 Auto to me, but could just as well be an early 1050. You can see the Homelite red paint in the area where the DOT tag used to be. You have a McHomelite..........and I have a HomeCulloch. My Mac 35A is yellow, but somebody sprayed it red at one time in its long life. Much of the red has worn off. Strange...

Heck IDK what it is, thats why I posted it on here :) But it is big, loud, and makes me smile when its running. Got louder after the baffle dissapeared outta the muffler :biggrinbounce2:
