We use it on the rollers and the little gear track that goes along the top and everywhere there's a joint that moves. I've got the door set on the light setting so our cat won't get caught under the door when it closes. The directions say not to use anything but silicone spray on it because oil thickens up in winter.

as long as it works! (unusual advice for metal to metal, though)

Picked up this Super XL tonight for $40 with a new carb kit. Looks like the fuel line needs replaced from the filter to the carb. I will tear into it tomorrow.

I also picked up a 600D, which I tried my hardest to walk away from but in the end I handed my money over. It will also need the fuel system gone through.

Is that a 452 Echo alongside it? I have one and they're pretty good saws..

Sorry to the H-folks for the deviation....

What is it, for you, about the 452 that makes it to the "pretty good saws.." status??

I recently acquired a 451(same B&S as the 452 from what little I've researched; Model Profile: CS-451VL). I was impressed with the solidness/weighty feel of that small size saw. It had great compression when pulling the starter cable so my hope is that it will end up being a good runner. Haven't done any searching on AS to learn more about it and parts availability. Just noted your post so decided to pick your brain. :msp_confused::D

There's not much brain here to pick, but I'll try to answer the question. I have a 452VL which starts good, isn't too heavy for me, seems to have good power for a 20" bar and is fairly easy to work on for the minor things like carb, ignition, fuel line. I don't know how it would be for the major stuff like changing a p/c because I didn't have to change this one. I have changed a p/c on my 550EVL and it wasn't bad at all but there are some that are easier, but I kinda like it too. Don't count me as an Echo fan just yet, there's several smaller ones that I've gotten rid of rather than mess with them. My favorites are the older American saws that are made of metal.

One more thing about the older Echo saws....don't lose or break any parts on these saws, it takes forever to find replacements for them and the parts sometimes aren't cheap.

Homelite 990G completed

I finished this one this morning - a fully rebuilt Homelite 990G. this unit is one of two I attempted to build in parallel, but spares have held up the completion of the 900G at present. This one is a powerful runner, and has been put together with a decent amount of new parts. The big H&S falling spike sets the unit off.

C5 seals

in the process of removing seals from the C5. got the seal out on the sprocket side no problem. now i'm looking at the starter/flywheel side and wondering if i really need to take the crank out of the case to get the seal out. really don't want to have to hassle with the 31 needle bearings but will if i have to.
 
I got a homelite XL saw for free. Im guessing its a 12" bar. Its an auto oiler type. I need to find out what type of chain it takes and also id like to find a book for it. It set for 10+ years i took it home checked the plug' filled it with fuel and it fired and ran on 3 pulls. Any info you guys could get me id appreciate it. Thanks.

Not sure you could count it a collectible...they must have made millions of them! I have three right now and I just sold two a couple of weeks ago. They probably won't be considered rare for 200 years. That applies to the XL and the Super XLs.

what about the Super 925XL I just picked one up for $40 with a new carb kit and short fuel line that goes into the carb box. I still need the line that goes in the tank, other than that the P&C are perfect with good compression and bright blue spark.

anyone got a lead on OEM paint?
 
XL-800 fuel line.

What have you fellows been using for fuel line on these?

IPL shows a 90 deg. elbow at the tank outlet but this one didn't have one. It had an 1/8" hard line going thru a rubber grommet. Grommet is hard and has shrunk. No longer fits tight in the hole.

Maybe I'll do another variation on my 'Fuel line trick #2' but the left turn is a problem.

I have the same deal with my XL925 except the rubber grommet is missing. I will let you know what I come up with this weekend as it is next on the bench after the 600D.

Jerry, I've been looking for paint. Duplicolor light blue metalic is as close as I've gotten in a spray can. Couple of anciet GM colors that are close, but hate the thought of cleaning spray guns.

I don't think its a grommet, I think its the line that the filter is on inside the tank. Wondering if an XL12 line would work, anybody know?
