Pricing long bars

I am still stuck on the bar pricing question I posed earlier.

Well I spent a bit of time watching auctions on E-bay. the conclusion on bars is that we are really wierd buyers. there were two almost identical bars from a seller in WA. both 32" both roller noses. one was sold for $1.78 per inch the other slightly better condition went for $2.38 per inch. The mount was for a 750 which also fits many other of the bigger saws.
Why?

I did not find a positively identified gear drive bar over 32" since I posted, but if I had I am thinking that it would be in the same range.

Interesting.

Slightly better condition. You answered your own question.
I went to an auction with my Dad and grandfather once. On what to me was some piece of junk bringing a four figure number that now may bring a low five figure price, I said that the guy buying that must be nuts, no way I'd ever pay that, you could buy a newer blah blah for that. Dad said "must be two crazy people, that guy that bought it, and the guy who could have bought it for $25 more". They ain't making any more of these, at least some of them anyways, and if they are it may be like a lot things, they won't be the same quality or authenticity.

Xl 102

What should one look at on a possible XL 102 purchase aside from the obvious? What are the particular things that can be screwed up that are a difficult fix? The parts that are made of 'unobtainium'.

Lookin' for a Homie to keep my Macs company.

Homelite help?

Could somebody help me identify this old homelite? I can't find a number anywhere, decals are gone. I don't know homelites well enough to even venture a guess... Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the fast reply guys. Had some rep laying about, sent some both your ways!
Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the saw, I never was a big homelite fanatic, it would be pretty cool to have it running though.......

Yes, some (ALOT) of both white death & corrosion. It was apparently stored inside a storage bldg with a dirt floor for an unknown amount of years. That fact alone is prompting me to just see if somebody wants it for parts.

You should rebuild it. you can get good used cases on ebay or a parts saw. they are easy to work on and make great power and alot of fun to run. They are an older saw but run like a newer one.

So my Wiz showed up

Serial 1759140, any idea what year this saw was made based on that? Surprisingly it rolls over good and feels like it has good compression. It has a bow bar (the reason I bought it). The chain is bigger links than I've seen. Quite a bit bigger than regular 3/8. Is it safe to assume that it's 404? I have calipers, what do I measure? It's too rusty to read any numbers on it. Let the fun begin. Full tear down coming soon. What's a good source for rings, gaskets, etc? Thanks! I'll pit some pics up when I get into it.

It should be 1/2 pitch on there.

It was made from 1959 - 1961

Just buy fully synthetic Stihl oil and mix it 40:1 and your good to go. I personally run everything I have at 50:1 using the Stihl fully synthetic but alot of guys play it safe and run 40:1. But that is the lowest ratio you will need for anything 2-cycle you have...but it MUST be fully synthetic oil.

ok i have some stihl oil mixed up at 50:1 but ill put some more in the tank before i fire it.

77cc i really wanna play with this thing:chainsawguy:. to bad its in the teens in my barn....
