It was a cool fall day and my c51 overunning clutch wouldnt engage. For lack of anything better I cleaned it with premix and lubed it with two stroke oil. Still working great.

On a 1020 what carb belongs on them? An Tillotson HL249a? I got a 1020 alittle while ago and it came with a smaller HL carb(I dont remember the model right now) but my c71 has the same carb on it. I have a HL249a from another parts 1020 and am gonna stick it on this saw even though the saw runs I just want all the muscle I can get. Im sure this will be fine but was just wondering what Tillotson carb belongs on the 1020's?

550's

Guys, I just got a couple of 550's in and need some help. How do you check for spark on these saws? I've never fooled with one and it has a strange ignition to me.

There is no cap to pull and when you take the two screws the whole cover falls off. One is missing that part and I guess ebay will be the place to find one if I knew what to call the damn thing.

I appreciate any and all help, THANKS....

I believe the carb should be a Tillotson HL222A
Or possibly a HL261A

Lee
Thanks Lee, I know the other carb I have isnt either one of them 2. It was something like hl149.

Barney, I think they call that part a transformer. I havent actually checked one for spark but think you could either use a clip on tachometer or run a wire from in between where the transformer contacts the case. Maybe??

I have checked spark on them,what a PITA !!
found the info by using search, darned if i rember what i searched for tho :(
when you pull the transforner one of the bolts grounds it,i think the one on the right side looking at the back of the saw.the other side supplies voltage.you have to rig up a setup using jumper wires with short bolts or whatever to extend those to the contacts on the transformer.. then you have to ground the spark plug however you can.
easist way is to find a running saw and swap the transformers, they all interchange between the models that use them.

A couple of new saws today

Picked up 5 new saws today, an old Remington with a broken crankshaft, a Poulan 306A with a 28" bar :dizzy:, a Stihl 015ATV and two old Homies.

The e-mail said there were 2 Super XL 925's, but I suspect this is one is a C-7 derivative.

The second actually was a 925.

Stopped at a local shop today to look at the new Echo saws. He is a Homelite turned Shindaiwa turned Echo dealer. Same old story, we got to talking saws and he presented me with the opportunity to by some of his Homelite NOS. I of course said "I'll pass, no one is interested in that junk."

Nice Junk!

Ha....not tonight. Wife had meeting and kids have church group tonight. Was lucky to get a pic of the hard nose. I have several more bars and some parts to look through. Picking up the saws tomorrow.

Alright Homies...

I have two Homelite 330's which apparently are as common as dirt judging by all the parts on Ebay. I am going to fix one up and give it back to my friend Bill in Iowa who's barn it came out of (he of course doesn't know this). The other came with the case I bought for Bill's when it goes home.

Question: I was going to test compression on both of them before taking them apart. Is this a stupid idea if they have been sitting around for who knows how long? Maybe I should pop the mufflers first, inspect, pour a little premix in and dump out first? I just don't want to get false readings or hurt the cylinder if they have been sitting.

I am going to fix Bill's while my boy Isaiah fixes the "extra" one side by side.
