Well I'll tell when I was a young buck I had way more hp and torque. Now that I'm a ole geezer my hp and torque ratings are much lower which would mean wear and tear and age also play a role in ratings of hp and torque. That Jack and Coke will surely bring your ratings down so fuel too has a effect although the more you drink it the less you will care about your ratings, hmmmmmmmm, that may be a good thing. We will have to get Andy(Lakeside) in here and see his view on this subjuct too....
Ultra has a pretty serious "blow-by" problem as well as exhaust leaks.;)

Yes, the Briggs is question would be developing 7.3 lbs.ft of torque at 3600 rpm and the Stihl would be developing 2.1 lbs.ft of torque at 12500 rpm yielding the same HP.

Simon what is the formula to figure this out..

Now Simon I have been keeping it nice..didn't think I would have to go to photo shop tonite..BUT
Fly at 'er. Solving for torque from the formula posted earlier, Torque = 33000*Hp/ (2*pi*rpm)

Then you have a diesel chainsaw.:)

Simon not to change the subject about hp and torque but I noticed you build saws, I assume you mean modify them. Just curious but when you modify a saw do you do any work on the bottom half, crankcase and crank? I ask because if all the work is done strickly to the piston/cylinder and muffler wouldn't it be easier to just do those parts, putem in a box and mail them to whoever instead of mailing the entire saw back and forth. I ask this because I read a few post of a guy sending his saw off to be modifed never got it back. Is there a reason the whole saw must be shipped if the person is willing to buy the modified parts and installing them hisself??

I guess the biggest concern is to do with air-leaks and clearances. I like to seal everything a specific way with a specific product, I also need everything spotlessly clean. The factory tolerances are all over the place so I like to treat each one as an individual machine rather than mass-produce ill-fitting components. Very good question though, I hope this clears it up a bit buddy.

Awwwwwwww ok. I was just wondering because I have a 046 Stihl that runs great, I mean real great. Cutting huzzy. Runs best and cuts best right at 14,000 rpms. I always wondered what it would do with a modified cylinder/piston and muffler. I'd be willing to buy those modified and install them myself. The chance of losing my saw in the mail sorta holds me back. Now from what your saying about the tolerances suppose I sent the piston/cylinder and muffler off the saw, the orginal parts. Would you still need the saw?????

Ultra I was asking if he could modify the ports on the cylinder and muffler and do a piston job and send the parts back so I could bolt the huzzy together myself. Hell he could inspect them while he's gotem. Ultra do you build saws too?, hell I'll ask you the same question, could you do the parts and send them back modified? I just don't like the idea of boxing up the whole saw when I can put it back together myself(wink)

It would be easier to do it yourself if you have measuring instruments and a die-grinder. I can give you my specs for the 046/MS460. I don't modify saws unless they are new as it takes so long to clean everything. If you pm me with your email address I will send the information you need as well as part numbers for some components. The 046 takes very well to modifications. Although it is a 77cc machine, when done properly it will easily cut with a stock 066/MS660. They are also a very tough saw regarding rod, crank and wrist-pin.
