I've never understood splitting into the tiny size? I don't sell wood so maybe what customers want? This will be pretty subjective. How small or large you make your splits will greatly vary the number from a round. Some guys like toothpicks, others like 8" +/-
I've never counted, so I'm not sure.

Good revision. This log was around 30" in diameter or so, couldn't or wouldn't want to roll much bigger up that 2x6Now that I see it on a big screen, and taking into account the size of the splits in the background, I'm going to revise my guess to 50.
When you split all day sometimes it gets boring. Plus I like to think of how long those pieces will keep a house warm. This is kind of like the wise old owl and the tootsie pop commercial, it's very subjective To answer your question, no, I don't bother to count them from the big blocks, I'm just happy to have them split.
Yes sir. You get the golden splitter award. So did I win or what?
Seems like some people are hung up on toothpicks... The splits in the background are my cutoffs for guys who have small stoves and they are about average for what I make.
Maybe the opposite of toothpicks explains why some guys need 2 or 3 years to season oak.
For the record, I only count pieces if I'm really bored, usually when my iPod dies on me and I don't have any music.
Only see 1 guess so far so I will wait a bit to give the answer.
