Anybody have an opinion on the EU (European Union) mufflers that are available from Husky/Jonsered? In a couple of the parts IPL's they call it a jungle muffler. Instaed of the exhaust port on the top of the muffler, there is a short pipe coming out of the right front. They are very similar to Olympyk mufflers. I suspect that there is no spark screen. Do they flow any better or sound any different?

They are listed for the 353/346 and 372's. There is also one in the 357 parts breakdown but it is no longer available.

I figure some of you guys have tried this.

Thanks

Hi Spike,

I`ve seen them in the IPLs but never tried them nor checked the availability. You could be onto something for those who wish to buy a modded muffler.

I'm in the Uk so our saws have them them like that as standard. All i can tell you is that they don't have spark arrestors, which is strange because everything else made by husky does over here despite it not being a legal requirment. If you get them from some places in Europe they may have an aresstor.

I don't know if they flow better or sound diffrent. I have that type on both the 365 and the 346XP. Both rated at 114Db Wla

I guess I should order them and see what happens.

Hear are the part numbers and retails if anyone is interested:

346--503862703---$34.90

372--503765301---$55.90 "tube" type
372--503765302---$55.90 "Jungle" type

Jungle and tube part #'s both point to the same picture in the most recent iPL. I have no idea what makes them different.

The part # for the 357 is 503917601, but it is NLA from both Husky and Jonsered.

Holy :censored:!! Do new Husky mufflers really cost that much? If yes, then I'm going keep buying parts saws.

It does sound as though they might be an affordable alternative to buying a modded muffler. Hmmm.....

Are you sure that the EU doesn't mean Europe ?
Norway isn't in that union, but we have the same mufflers.

Unlike Stihl, Husky and Jonsered state the same power output on all models both in Europe and the US, so if they have better flow it either is minimal, or the marketing is deceptive.
Be aware that the carbs is different also, at least on the models I have looked at (346xp/353 is an exemple).

They do not have spark screens, or provision for it.

Not Actually sure on this as the IPL just says "EU". So, I just took a guess. Could be either one.

Norway is smart to not be in the union, I think.

Missing info

Some may be missing the tongue in cheek approach to woodticking.

I'm not sure if ben is referring to not using a screen being "politically incorrect" or if he is joking about the recent thread where they were discussing whether or not something could be sucked into the engine through a muffler without a screen. Either way, . Anywhoo, I am going to order one of these mufflers for my 353 and I will let everyone know if there is any noticeable difference. It almost looks like a baby walkers muffler with the little tube coming out of the side :D .

or if he is joking about the recent thread where they were discussing whether or not something could be sucked into the engine through a muffler without a screen.
We got a winner!

I will be surprised if you can get one in the states. EPA watches that pretty close.
Thats non sense or else Stihl owners who put the dual port covers on the ms 440, 460, and 660's would be in shackles by now.

i missed that thread.........i don't have screens an any of my saw's..........and some of them have pretty big holes in them, and i haven't had a problem yet.

I have always removed the screens as soon as i get a saw. When you think of how fine the wire mesh is thats used for screens is it makes no sense to muffler mod a saw then partially plug it back up. My Husky 372's work great with two 3/4" holes and no screens.

I removed the muffler screens on two of my saws. I honestly couldn't really tell a difference so I put them back in. I guess running timed cuts would be the only way to know for sure. I dont know if the exhaust outlet in these "eu" mufflers is any bigger, but that neat little factory tube sticking out sure is "phat". I dont think there is any reason to be concerned with foreign material entering through the exhaust outlet.
