My buddy just got this saw and doesn't know what ratio to mix the oil/fuel. He definitely does not want to guess and burn up his new B-Day gift. If anyone knows chime in. Thanks

The survey says.........

Most all websites I'm finding say 50:1 unless otherwise noted. Does anyone disagree?

i run all saws at 40:1 with stihl or husky mix no matter what brand of saw or age of it. that includes vintage david bradleys, mcculloch, or brand new saws. the only thing that needs changing is the carb adjustment.

there is one catch, for saws fixed jet carbs.. thats a whole other story. carb replacement IS the best way but not allways feasible.

My buddy has had one since brand new. Manual says 50:1 dude. All husky's run 50:1 I think... Everyone I've ever seen anyways

I personally wouldn't run 50:1 in a saw that i valued... I agree with Ben on this one. 40:1 won't hurt anything and has just a tad bit of extra oil to ensure the bottom end will be ok over time. As long as the carb is tuned, 32:1 would be ok.

I would be willing to bet that anyone that has an original owners manul for a 281 0r 288 says 40:1 if not 36:1.

My 2186 owners manual had said 36:1 yet the Jred and husky webistes said 50:1.

50:1 is a crapshoot from the EPA tightening up these newer saws that run hotter. Hotter engine temps, with less oil is never a good thing.....

I concur

Yup, his manual said 50 but I never go below 40:1. Even my little 266XP I've been running for like 6 months now has always had 40:1. I think when companies spec the ratios the epa has alot to do with it. Unofficially most mechanics will tell you to run them with a bit more oil than is the standard and you'll get more life out of them...

I run 32/1 in everything but all saw users need to understand that ratio recommendations are based upon the oils not the saws. For a gazillion units Husky mauals have said 50/1 with Husky oil or 25/1 for other oils. This is not becasue Husky makes the best oil in the world rather it is because they don't know what the "other" will be. My old 268xp manual specifies 50/1 or 25/1 other 2 stroke oil or 25/1 30weight moter oil if 2-stroke is not available. I like extra oil and highest quality oil-burning a tad extra hurts nothing bhut I will happily put that 32/i in ANY chainsaw no matter what the original ration may have been.

G'day all.
I have two husqvarna warranty cards telling me to use 50:1 with saws under 80cc and 25:1 over 80cc, using the low smoke oil. Also I read a service bulletin stating intermediate saws (60-70cc) in hot conditions should run 33:1.
To be honest, I have spent way too much time in the past nulling over ratio's and what type of oil to use, and I'm only a weekend warrior.
I stopped worrying about it in the end and decided that I would decide on ratio's according to the machine and the conditions it operates under. All my equipment uses 40:1 with no carb re-adjustment, except for the victa mower which I still mix at 25:1 because it rattles a lot. I've tried most of the ratio's mentioned in these forums including 50:1 and had no problems with any of them, no excessive carbon build up and no lean oil problems. I do like the synthetics oil's though. If I'm ever un-decided, I'll just follow the manufacturer recommendations.

I run all of my two strokes at 32:1, with the exception of my boat which runs at 50:1 and my sled which runs at 20:1. I have never had any deposits or motor issue that could be attributed to oil.
