You won't have to degree the saw till after the barrel and piston machining but do check your squish prior.

the squish will help determine the amount of machining req'd, correct?

thoughts as to what should be taken off the jug and piston if possible, and what to alter for port timing as required??
 
Interesting how so many aren't having these same issues.

Bad big-end bearings in the 365/372 series is pretty common. I have at least 6 of them under my bench right now with bad cranks. The rev-limited ones seem to last longer. Not saying that there is anything wrong with these saws, but I have gotten to change a few.

Yeah right, not saying it's not common, but how some don't have these issues where others find it a reoccurring issue.

Lack of filter maintenance, low/HD filter?

All of the nuked ones I have are 365's with the low filter. They were road-crew saws, and those guys were certainly hard on them. I have never had one fail on one of my own.
