Guam. Japan soon.
I really like this saw alot. But compared to my Stihls, it floods. It's just different than the Stihls in that regard. I've since gotten used to it, so it doesn't happen much anymore.
But I like the Stihls better.
I've picked up a 260 PRO, it feels lighter and "better".
I like my Dolmar, but I do like the feel of that 260PRO.
I haven't had a chance to grab a Husky 346XP yet, I know it's lighter also.
Other than a few flooding issues (operator error.) and being a little chunky and heavy compared to the two saws mentioned above.
I love the saw.
It IS a strong runner, and at $400 is a great value. But she's just kinda heavy.....The "Rosie" of 50cc saws.

I noticed that Lakesides' entries say "tree freak". Is that because he has umteen quadzillion rep points?

I also notice even when he is posting, he no longer shows up at the bottom as online or even invisible.

He's transcended us physical mortals somehow.....You go guy!

Well he does have over 10,200 posts so he deserves some credit.LOLOLOLOL:clap: :hmm3grin2orange: :biggrinbounce2: :greenchainsaw:

Singler, the 5100 will cut circles around a 260....its design is also superior in about every way...better antivib, filtration, better tooling....

It and the 7900 are at top of their respective classes. The 5100 is darn near on a par with the 357 Husky and 361 Stihl, but costs much less and is lighter.

rb you are certainly right that the 5100 will cut circles around the 260. I own a 5100 personally, and i use 260's, 357's, and 361's everyday at work. The only real advantages I see in the the 260 are the weight issue and the fact that they are made by stihl, both of which can be argued in either direction. I feel that the 5100 is comperable to the 357 i use at work and would like to time some cuts with both saws to see the results. The 361's are simply bigger saws than the 5100 so they cut faster. I bought the 5100 to bridge the gap between my 200T and my 440. The 5100 was lighter than the 361 and more powerful than the 260, it was also cheaper that either of the stihls, so it seemed the perfect choice. Although with an unlimited budget i would have just bought all three.

sure... and better tooling? hmmm..

My 361 will kick your 5100 butt in decent wood.

So there!

I doubt that! And I have a six pack of Milwaukee's Worst to back up my acceptance of your challenge. Too bad there's no decent wood left around your place... :greenchainsaw: or virgin satellite dishes.... :dizzy:

I've never run my 357 in stock form, nor my 5100, but at 3.8-4.0 vs 4.4 listed horsepower, I'm sure the 357 would win. I have a new 5100 to pick up this morning at the post office, bought from AS member lovetheoutdoors, and will do some timed cuts, stock vs modded, piped vs muffler.....325 chisel vs .375 square ground chisel....and video tape them..who know when I'll find the time to do this.....

So there!

simple things like the solidly built master control lever, the one piece plate that surrounds the oil pump/crank end.....carb attachments to body etc...solid clips for carb/ engine cover.....
beefy muffler

bad is the way Dolmars leak oil....though I don't think the 5100 is doing it....yet...the 7900 is awful in that regard.

Hey RB,
I do like that 5100, it's a real strong saw. It does (or did) seem a little more prone to flooding. But I haven't had any problems with that lately....I've learned to only pull once or twice at the most while the switch is in the choke position.

Carb attachments to the body?? clips for covers? hmmm... One piece plate? lolol were they trying to keep the oil inside? Beefy [one piece]muffler? - you just wack a hole in it anyhow!

I'd sure hope that Dolmar figured a few minor improvements - they had 18 years to study the 026, and 23 if you include the 024, but none of those are any issue on the 026.. you're the only guy I know that can't work the control lever! ;) they even made it idiot-proof about 8 years ago by changing the spring to one that didn't get tweaked by guys operating it without the air filter!:sucks:

The 5100 is a fine little machine, but is not a god-given revolution over comparable models - a minor evolution maybe. And like you say - you don't use them "stock". You and Timberwolf should have a race one day:cheers:

and did I say this before :sucks: :sucks:

Hey, did you say there's a 6 pack on the line? I have the wood! Win or loose I get half of it anyhow

Hey LS, I know your 361 will beat my 5100 (I've run yours) but sometime it would be interesting to run it against my stock 5100 in say 14 inch wood.

The question will be the spread.

14 inch? lololol ... then it's only chain speed. I'll just put on an 8 pin sprocket and 16 inch bar (feel free to do the same).

To be fair though, we both need to use the same chain, either you sharpen both or I do. I know what you'll choose... ;)

I was thinking we just use whatever chain is on the saws at the time. I'm not interested in fair here.
