Butch and Froggy, go with the regular aluminum pads money well spent. brian has a very good point re the T2's I still have a pair of steel Kleins and they are durable and afordable.
I don't spend much time on gaffs but when I do I can't say that I notice the weight much-the biggest strain is the stress on my instep. Second is the loading on my knees. Shin pads don't matter a great deal. My favorites are the Brooks pole gaffs. I have some long gaff Bucks that I find too wobbly.
Brooks climbers rock! I have done four hour removals in my Brooks and they didn’t hurt my feet as much as my Kleins do in 10 minutes. I do like the gaff on the Kleins better. Until I get into small wood then they wobble too much.
i use bashlins as i got a good deal on them, but when ive worked for other cos that supplied the kit ive found the bucks to be more comfortable.IMO bashlins are better on poley stuff.dont ask me why!
Probably not. Wescos are lined with lead, they hold down my closet floor just fine. Nowadays I wear em only for gang fights or walking through razor wire.
I wore mine for 4 years or so. I even had them rebuilt once. Then, they just got too heavy. I also got tired of having to change out of them for trims.
I like the Kleins. I'm starting to think I'm going to go that way. Since I wear WESCOS the weight difference will not really make a difference. I've been thinking on this s$$$ all weekend. I tried e-bay, but it seem to be a pain in a@@. Most of the people on there don't seem to know what they got. If they do they don't really know what they're for.
Thanks, BB
I talked to a guy who has a pair of Bashlin Aluminum Climbers with "L" pads on them. The gaffs that are on them are pole gaffs. He said he'd sell for $150.00 plus $20.00 shipping. This sound like a deal. The "L" pads you can get at Baileys for $19.95 and the Climber with Tree Gaffs sell in Sherrills for $230.00 with out pads. He told me they were a $250.00 value. Looks like I'm going to have $150.00 plus $20.00 shipping =$170.00 up front. Then I'll have to get a pair of Tree Gaffs for $60.00 from Sherills. Which will end up being $230.00 in the long run. I know I can climb on pole gaffs for a while. Thick bark tree will be tricky, but as long as I dig in hard I should be OK. BB
I'd like to check those Kleins out that spreaderman has. What do you think about Brooks Climbers? I've heard positive and negative feed back about them. Let me know what info you all have on them.
The thing I like about the Brooks is that they are easy on my feet. The drawback is the way the straps attach to the climber and that you are limited on the available pads. No caddy or c pads. At least with the Klein climbers I can get the c pads with the metal inserts to fit. They are great if you can get them to lay parallel to your leg. If not they will rub a raw spot.
