The technician said that the serial number should be 9 digits and should not start with an "S". The plot thickens again.

I bet this saw is a knockoff.

EDIT--I never got the model #s via phone, but went to look at the saws anyway. Small saws, the only one of interest to me was the Echo 302. It was difficult to start, wouldn't idle without spinning the chain or dieing. At least I didn't drive very far.
