I have used the high face cut before, and I think I even posted a thread about doing so. I dont use a chain, but I use two loop runners connected with a steel biner. On a green tree if you use a 70 degree face cut like Murph preaches the hindge will usually not seperate. I have had a 30 ft cotton wood spar jump the stump and take out the fence next to it, but I was using about a 45 degree humbolt and cut to much hindge. Having learned from my mistakes, I now always use the 70 degree face cut and leave at least 10% of the diameter of the tree for hindge. If I have to I will hook up a Z-rig and pull the tree over using even more than 10% hindge wood.
