Whoa.....yes, it's the same saw! "Good compression" isn't 120psi.....in fact it may not start with that, without help.

*Sigh*...OK, I'm contacting him about the shipping. If someone else wants the saw please speak up now, but don't bid against me-it would be rude and I'll bail on ya at some point....
I need a lot of parts from that saw to make this new bought 90 whole again.:D Thanks for the heads-up, Jim!

Kevin
Good luck Kevin......can never have to many parts saws!! LOL!!

Allrighty then......back to the 625......A few more pics showing the light use on this saw. The piston shows very little wear...note the machine marks are still quite clearly defined on the thrust faces, except on the very bottom of the skirts....air filter, muffler and recoil are just the way they arrived...didn't even blow anything off with air......very well cared for and maintained saw it tells me.....625 008.JPG 625 001.JPG 625 004.JPG 625 007.JPG

I do at the moment because I haven't got much time on the 630 because it needs EVERYTHING. It was an ebay saw that i got taken on  and I've been slowly collecting things for it and i have most of it sorted out... but I can't put it in wood yet as the muffler keeps falling off of it because the po stripped out one of the muffler bolt holes and i haven't had time to deal with it yet. My 625II is almost mint and use it alot. I can't wait to start using the 630, but right now it's just a reminder of why i shouldn't be on ebay looking at saws .

That is/was a common problem......I have in the project pile a very nice, one owner 630V that has the same issue except the PO tried to weld the stripped hole in....without removing the cyl.......didn't work.....saw came to me needing a muffler and cyl.....but after cleaning it up and starting to reassemble I noticed a case gasket failure right under the muffler.....gasket was blown through into the oil tank.....told him it would be another $100 or so to pull the saw down and replace the gasket, crank seals, O-rings and might as well do a new set of main bearings whilst in there.........he said "Keep it"......I said OK...LOL!!! That 630 had never been in the woods......the guy bought it new and had his firewood delivered tree length and he fit it to stove length right on his lawn....25 feet from his garage where the saw lived when not it use.....another nice low hr. Jonsered.......with heated handles!!

Good luck on your 630....I have become quite fond of this whole family of saws....

So now this 625 starts to get really interesting....as I said earlier...not in a good way!! I have torn down many saws over the years and have seen a lot of wear, scoring, broken/burnt pistons, burnt out conrod bearings, failed main bearings etc........but have never encountered this......this is something new......don't know exactly what yet and may never know....but man it ain't good!!!!

I had a very difficult time getting the piston out of the cyl......was glued in....took quite a while....and used nearly all the bad words I had at my disposal!! Note the crosshatch under all the mung....625 005.JPG 625 006.JPG 625 010.JPG 625 011.JPG 625 020.JPG

But wait!! There's more!! Fairly heavy external damage too......top handle was severely bent...then straightened somewhat...until it failed......recoil took a heavy hit too...same time I expect...durn tuff plastic on those reds saws!! The rope has been pulled so hard that the top wind has gone below the next wind and bound the whole thing up....that's why the pull cord is hanging limply!!.....625 015.JPG 625 016.JPG 625 005.JPG .gonna have to cut the rope and try to pull it out with pliers I guess

Gritty?
Large grain?
Small?
Oily?
Slime?

Not sure.....not carbon.....not particularly gritty.....more rubbery in texture...if solid... how did it get through the carb in quantities enough to build up so deep on the con rod and case opposite the intake?? It obviously came in the intake from the scatter field. Had to happen very quickly no scoring at all on the piston...just glued to the cyl wall....ring really stuck....no movement detected.....LOL.......I have a theory.....
