Well, the 90 on ebay went for $108.50 plus $44.71 for shipping. No deal there for sight unseen saw in dubious condition. More frenzy buyer crap....I went to $80 and thought with shipping that I was losing my mind....glad it went to another knucklehead!

Hey Dean....what's going on with your 90??

Kevin
My real job is getting in the way of fixing it right now.
I should be able to take some time tomorrow.

Anybody interested in a 1994 630 Super II powerhead? This was going to be my fence row saw on my tractor, but I need to move it. Previous owner had wrong bar and super dull chain on it and probably ran it that way until the piston scuffed the cylinder. The cylinder has streaks on it, but nothing that catches my fingernail. I dressed the piston with emery cloth and put a new ring on it. Has had one tank of mix through it and runs very well now. It's all original and otherwise in very good shape.

EDIT - sold it

Good!
When you installed the base gasket are you sure you got it on so the cut out lined up with the impulse hole in the case and cyl? The cutouts must face the intake side of the cyl. !!

Here's what it looks like and I didn't notice it before but the hole is slightly covered with the gasket.

After I had the cylinder off I squirted some 2+2 in the manifold impulse hole. Nothing chunky came out and it was brownish at first. The carb gasket has two impulse holes in it, so I'm thinking it's idiot proof and you can't get that one bassackwards.

I DIIIIIID however, buy a new cylinder for my 90. $75
I think I'm committed to keeping now, sorry Kev.

Nice score if that jug was NOS.

That's OK...I still have another 90 to restore...just gonna be a part's whore to do it. Doesn't look like you could install the gasket incorrectly.....maybe trim it out some, so the jug impulse hole is completely visible? But I'm doubting that's your problem.....which still sounds like some kinda gas starvation.

Anyone know where to get a winter kit for a 2171? I have one for my 2188-got it from my dealer, they didn't see one listed to order for a 2171. Does the 2172 have the same recoil cover? I know the 372 uses a completely different cover, so that is not an option. I have been taping the side up with duck tape but it leaves its glue behind and falls off when it gets real cold. Just want to keep the snow out. Next saw will be heated I swear by my frozen hands.
Also does anyone else have any opinions or experience with ported 2188's? I'm hooked.
Thanks

A 90 on the bay with some issues:http://www.ebay.com/itm/JONSERED-90-CHAINSAW-/111301886704

Cracked(destroyed) clutch cover...hole in bottom re-welded(how and with what?)...missing some nuts & bolts. My impression is that this saw was carelessly thrown around a lot in a vehicle and the wear marks seem to bear that out(probably thrown on the ground some too). Not enough pics actually to tell more. We'll see how it sells.

Starting bid at $150!!!!! WOW!!!

Well yeah, it's crazy given that a nice clutch cover is about $40+ on ebay, And that hole in the bottom would bug me some.....maybe it was welded right, maybe not. But we've seen crazier things happen on ebay recently. To me, it's a $75 saw, tops, the way it is with some unknowns......his shipping is cheap enough, but you're at a $175 if there's no other bids.

No thank you....J'red Anonymous has let me say NO to this one.....lol

Base cyl gaset looks good......not sure you cant get the carb gasket wrong......make certain the hole in the gasket lines up with the hole in the carb....this is necessary..

Did we ask him if he got the big green carb gasket??? Cuz if he used that gasket that comes with the HS rebuild kit, it's WRONG as we both know. Impulse channel has to be completely covered by gasket and the kit gasket does not do that!

Sorry for the time between posts......down in Costa Rica and few places to get on line. I sent Dean a NOS carb gasket along with the NOs cyl base gasket and though it has two holes it is still possible to get it flipped the wrong way I believe......that's why I said to be certain that the hole in the gasket lines up properly with the hole in the carb body..........don't worry about how it goes against the manifold as long as it lines up with the carb.....be back stasteside in a few days......looks like more snow on the Rockbound Coast of Maine today.....haven't seen any of that down here!!!

Hope you're havin' a good time down there! I'm going to see my son in Manhattan first week of April... hope the weather changes there soon...brrrr.

I didn't remember that you sent Dean a carb gasket as well...that's easy enough for him to check on the carb hole.
