Wow....I thought it might be a vent. Can't think what else it could be. Which means.....I'll have to 're-vent' the old 80 again. I think I plugged the tiny hole.....lol

Kevin

Welcome back Kevin. I trust you enjoyed your trip.
The interesting thing about those vents blocked with a cotter pin. The cotter pin will enlarge that hole over time due to vibration I'm guessing. I see that on the Poulan 3400 - 4000 series saws. If the hole stayed unchanged as built there was very little oil seepage. As time goes on with a heavily used saw, the larger hole causes significant leakage when the saw is turned on it's side to cut. A larger diameter cotter pin will help fix that. They can be a pain to replace depending upon whether you can get to them easily or not.

Thanks Tim...had a great time, but spent all my cash in the first two days. What a crazy place, but lots to do.

That's exactly what happened with the old 80, now that you explained it....the hole just became enlarged. Going with a larger Cotter will buy more time-great idea. Yeah, I can imagine the linguistics of bending the tabs on a new pin in there. Easy to pull out...tough to bend back. I'll have to see what I did...think in this case, I plugged and sanded with JB Weld. Or...maybe I'll move over a bit and duplicate the tiny, original hole and use the tiny Cotter like OE.

Yep....tank vent.....it actually has a name...it's called a "wiggle pin"....not really Jonsereds specific....used in many places where a vent or drain must stay open. Vibration keeps the cotter pin moving and prevents it from rusting/corroding in place and thus keeps the passage open....and hense the wiggle part.

Kevin...if you relocate the hole do it close enough to the oil fill hole to reach your finger in to spread the pin ends.....just a thought..

Gotcha....great idea to move it closer to the filler hole. Man, that pin is small OE....

In my Husky 2100, they have two different part #'s for the filler caps. I've always suspected that the bottom oil cap was supposed to have a vent hole and the top one was solid because of a mechanical tank vent. All the caps I get now have vent holes in the cap with a built-in rubber flapper etc. Back in the day I never paid any attention to the replacement caps.....I've posed this question to the Husky fans on this site, but no one seems to know the original difference between the two caps. All that matters in any tank is that air can replace the liquid as you use it up, so the flow continues uninhibited.

EBAY listing Jonsered 111s!!!!
Description: this saw has missing parts including some ignition parts and carb parts the engine turns over and dosent appear to have any scoring muffler has a crack in it and air filter cover is missing
SOLD for $440 + $50 for shipping

I bid $435 on it early this morning.

WOW :dizzy:

I was watching that too Dean.....$490.00 is lot of money for as saw that needed so much stuff.....but the 111S is a sellers market...and ebay is just nuts on things like that. The buyer only had 18 transactions.....he bid consistently high all the way through....with that few transactions he may fail to pay and it could come around again, so keep an eye out all may not be lost.

ok, and I believe the seller is in your neck of the woods, he had a nice looking Stihl S10 for sale too.

Robin . . . . FINALLY, received my 910 parts. I pulled the crank seals and a carb gasket, the muffler gasket didn't fit my 90. The rest is yours, case, muffler and cylinder gasket coming to you. I'll get that in the mail tomorrow AM.

The 111S seems to be a J'red anomaly. That sounds like the same saw that was listed awhile back....or at least it was missing similar parts. Due to the scarcity of parts, this indeed could become a travelin' ebay chainsaw. Anyway as you say, this saw on ebay is totally a seller's saw, much like the Husky 2100/2101. Personally, I would look for this saw anywhere else but the bay. And it's tantamount that it comes complete, 'cuz parts are gonna be a beetch.

Huh???......you're right....I DIDN"T notice that....Western part of the state.....

Well that's to bad on the gaskets.....exhaust gasket wasn't even close enough to modify? Thanks I have a couple 910s to build....one that will be mostly all NOS parts including cases and the other more of a good work saw.....both will have new mains and NOS P&C kits but only had one case gasket!!

Well boys......I hate to speak of things yet unhappened......but in two weeks and three days I should be the proud owner of a near pristine 111S......32" (usable) roller tip bar in .404 all in very good shape. Also comes with a mill rig that I have no idea how that works but it looks like factory cast alum set up......also a helper handle for the bar end.........have looked at quite a few pics and know the seller......I am paying just what he paid.....a lot....but all the 111s I've been offered were 350-600 and none were instantly usable......

Never thought much about chainsaw milling as for the last 27 yrs I've owned my own, ancient, stationary diesel powered, lefthand rotary sawmill with 76' of track and an 18' carriage....however I get burls occasionally and it's real scary trying to slab a round ball of weird wood held in only one place on the "Sawyers Favorite"......so maybe this will be a good set up for that kind of milling.....

Nice! Can't wait to see it when you get it. I'm waiting to "trip" over another... but it hasn't happened yet. I saw that one on the bay as well, too rich for my blood in that condition.

And so it goes....now desirable, rare saws in dubious condition bringing high dollar on the bay. Normally I wouldn't care; let the folks with more money than brains pay whatever they want. But the problem with that is, it raises the bar for the rest of us who are struggling to get parts and part's saws. So saws that bring $500, need unobtainium parts and lots of work.....nah, got to draw the line somewhere.

Post lots of pics Robin....I don't care what ya paid...I couldn't think of a more deserving J'red owner.

LOL!! Thanks Kevin......be paying exactly 2 times what I paid for the most expensive saw I had previously bought.... which was not new, but only had about half the original chain filed poorly away. It was a current model at the time and parts was not an issue......unlike most saws I now own!!!! Guess that's why it's called a "Hobby".....

I've got too many hobbies to 'invest' in a chainsaw at this particular time. At least you'll do right by it and make it whole again....can't wait to see all the pics. I'll just have to live through you with the 111S...lol.

I probably could have but it didn't seem right when I knew you could probably use it as is.

Con-freakin-grats on the 111s score, I'd like to see a pic of that when you get the milling bar on it.

Kevin, you ought to look at the picture of that piped Jonny over in the spring Ia./Mo. GTG thread.

LOL....I'm not really interested in heavily modified saws for competition...just work saws, or potential work saws. Modified motorcycles or hot Mopar iron, hell yeah!

That's one crazy lookin' saw, for sure....
